neepsntatties (284), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 23, 2009 12 oz. bottle from the Portland brewery. Colour... orange amber with thin head. Nose... quite hoppy with some malt. Palate... plenty of hops up front, some malt, slightly carboardy, wet earth and lingering hops on the back palate. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Sep 27, 2009 Has one of these 12-oz bottles in my cellar for the past year. Pours a semi-hazy dark copper amber colored brew with an average sized off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some spotty lacing. Aroma of powdered caramel malt, some tart berries a hint of toffee and some floral hops. Taste is medium bodied, some tart caramel, floral hops and a touch of clove spice. Finish has a dark pitted fruit and tart berry aftertaste that has a sharp bitterness, though a smooth texture. The one year of aging did some nice work on this amber strong ale. Fratto (670), Arlington, Texas, USA Sep 17, 2009 Six pack. Hop heavy with a healthy amount of spice. It does help warm up the cold. hopdog (5535), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 15, 2009 12oz bottle shared courtesy of Josh. Poured a medium and hazy amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of floral hops, pine, and some caramel. Tastes of the same; floral hops, pine, and caramel. This was definitely on the hoppier side (which is fine for me!). tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA May 7, 2009
We had a winter warmer tasting party and to our pleasant surprise, this isnt a winter warmer. Its actually a well crafted malty IPA. The hops dominate with a wonderful pine bouquet in the front, and finish with nice and subtle malt on the backend.
This really needs to be a year round release from widmer, as it is the best beer they have released. markas101 (541), Fargo, North Dakota, USA Mar 21, 2009 33 cl bottle, Fargo, ND, USA. Deep amber, sweet caramel aroma. Sweet flavor, deceptively smooth finish for a stronger ale. Very nice. BVery (446), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA Mar 20, 2009 TAP: reddish/amber pour, malt and caramel on the nose. Pretty hoppy, but not terribly bitter, with good spice flavor. Decent beer. fakepurseninja (773), Washington, USA Mar 8, 2009 Exactly what I expected. Sweet caramel malt base with sweet toffee accents. Thin hop components wit h a spicy resinous component. Nice holiday sixer.
