We had a winter warmer tasting party and to our pleasant surprise, this isnt a winter warmer. Its actually a well crafted malty IPA. The hops dominate with a wonderful pine bouquet in the front, and finish with nice and subtle malt on the backend.
This really needs to be a year round release from widmer, as it is the best beer they have released.

Mar 21, 2009 33 cl bottle, Fargo, ND, USA. Deep amber, sweet caramel aroma. Sweet flavor, deceptively smooth finish for a stronger ale. Very nice.

Mar 20, 2009 TAP: reddish/amber pour, malt and caramel on the nose. Pretty hoppy, but not terribly bitter, with good spice flavor. Decent beer.

Mar 8, 2009 Exactly what I expected. Sweet caramel malt base with sweet toffee accents. Thin hop components wit h a spicy resinous component. Nice holiday sixer.

Feb 19, 2009 Amber in color with a small off-white head. Aroma is heavy in hops. Taste is the same with some floral and grassy notes.

Poured a hazy copper color with an average creamy off-white head that was mostly diminishing and had good lacing. Good allspice and citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with slick dry texture. Moderate well balanced smooth flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration.
Good holiday brew.

Feb 3, 2009 12oz bottle. This beer pours a rich red copper. Reasonable head that melts to a consistent thin covering over the top of the beer. Some lacing, but not alot. The nose is spiced flowers. Very nice hoppy smell, expectation is that this will be an over-hopped holiday beer. Then the taste. What a balance. Expectation is IPA level hops, but the taste brings in the smooth sweet malts. Hops are noticible, but not overbearing. The mouthfeel is nice, full, smooth. Palate is balanced and the finish is smooth. This beer gets MORE flavorful as it approaches room temperature. And the slightly elevated ABV makes this a truly good winter evening brew. Well done W. Bros.
