beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Oct 19, 2008 Rumor is that this is just one of the W series beers relabeled, but I’m not sure on that. Pours darker copper with a tall white head. Malty start with a big citrus hop finish. Notes of caramel and chocolate. Pretty nice big malty IPA. Earlier Rating: 12/13/2004 Total Score: 3.2 On tap at the Widmer Brewery. Pours a transparent amber with a small white head. Light fruity hoping in the aorma, some citrus hops. Flavor starts with just a touch of fruity malt, finished off by a bigger bitterness. Citrusy hop finish, with slight grapefruit notes. This was a nice hoppy brew, easy drinking and smooth. This brew should replace the springrun IPA as their bottled spring brew. Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Oct 18, 2008 Re-packaged under the "Brr" nametag for the 08 Holiday season. Someday maybe Widmer will actually make a beer that I enjoy drinking. This wasn’t it. ditmier (1020), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 15, 2008 2008 Bottle - Pours a coppery red with a large off-white head...aroma is huge, soapy and piney, a very interesting brew...Starts off with a bitter bite, and slowly leads into caramel-y malts and finishes slightly sweet, with the bitterness apparent in every stage...not an overly hoppy brew, but moreso than its winter counterparts... Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 6, 2008 On tap at Widmer Gasthaus in Portland, OR--Floral summit onion hop nose from an amber-copper body with hints of clear chestnut. Silky thin white head. Spicy, smooth like it came out of a laboratory. Not bad. Bradrcr (778), Renton, Washington, USA Feb 9, 2008 Widmer NW Red 8 3 16 5 9 41
1/19/08 On draught at the Portland brewhouse. At first thought it was the W ’06 re-brewed, but their menu made no mention, and this was a much more drinkable brew. Aroma is c-hop forward balanced by sweet malt, very PNW pale ale in character. Appearance is clear copper with a moderate off-white head and heavy lacing. Flavor is a blend of ESB and APA characteristics, with a near perfect balance of low flora bittering hops and sweet caramel malt. Simple, and VERY easy drinking. Mouthfeel is medium/light bodied with medium carb texture and a spicy/sweet finish. Overall, very well made, great blending, and can down one in a heartbeat. Earlier Rating: 2/9/2008 Total Score: 2.9 From the bottle, summer ’06. Overall, this just struck me as slightly stale. The malt was just too low on sweetness, and the hops came of as very earthy, with a low flora to them. Dryness was a bit high for the style as well. Juelze (889), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA May 28, 2007 Trade from Ross, thanks! Pours a coppery red with average off white head. Aroma is of light citrus hops and caramel and sweet malt. Taste is same as the aroma but the alcohol shows up, barely. However, this is a very smooth and enjoyable beer. DeaconBluez (4), Alabama, USA does not count Jan 13, 2007 pours a red...almost brown in color color. nice head retention. the smell is rather hoppy. hints of grapefruit and sweet malts as well. hops stand out...but not a huge aroma coming from this. taste is of sweet caramels.there are bitter hops in there as well. lemons and grapefruits. there is a somewhat burnt fruit taste in there to me. mouthfeel is is somewhat oily...not what i was expecting but a nice surprise. it is somewhat drinkable as the alcohol likes to rear its head. a very nice brew that i wish was more available to me. would pick it whenever it came it out in the winter
footbalm (1218), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Oct 21, 2006 Very nice brew that had a major hop hit a long with some graininess to it. Had some malts but the main player is the hops. Had a nice bitterness on the tongue.
