JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Sep 28, 2006 Copper clear body, thin light beige head. Fruity citrus hops and chocolate milkshake, sweet perfume hints. Well blended sweet rye-like malts (chocolate) with some hops in the background. Pretty pleasant, reminds me of the Terrapin Rye PA, but just a little sweeter and different. madcow75 (425), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA Sep 23, 2006 Poured copper/red with a medium off white head. Faint citrus and sweet candy like nose. Taste is candy sweet, hoppy and lots of malt as well. The intial sweetness is nice and the caramel malt comes in the end. Moderate carbonation. Finishes with decent bitterness. This aint half bad. dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Sep 21, 2006 Wonderfully hoppy aroma. Really a nice beer throughout. Much more hoppy than what would be right if this was actually a red ale. That said, I was very pleasantly surprised by this. chadje (129), Pasadena, California, USA Sep 19, 2006 Updated: Sep 16, 2009One of the best Red Ales I have had, granted I haven’t had a lot. Don’t usually notice the aroma, but this one smelled really good, really stood out. It is smooth and a very good tasting beer. Will miss it when it is gone as it is only seasonal. 12 oz. bottle poured into a chilled mug, at least the first bottle. Hope they keep this year round as I would like to add to my rotation. elnadeau (786), Laguna Niguel, California, USA Aug 22, 2006 Nice copper colored pour, medium beige head, aroma of sweet caramel, fruity and hoppy. Full body with ample crystal malt character, complex fruitiness with malt and hops blending well to provide a citrus piney overtone and good bitter balance. A very decent beer, hope we can see more at this level from this brewery. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA Aug 19, 2006 12 oz bottle, from Whole Foods downtown Portland. Pours deep reddish copper with a small beigey head that leaves spotty lace. Aroma is rich with caramelly and dark fruity malts, counterpointed by floral and lightly citrus hops. The flavor features lots of full bodied rich malts as well, sweet and lucious with generous bittering hops to balance, lemon peel, grapefruit and hints of pine. Medium body and creamy carbonation. Quite enjoyable overall and more than I usuallsy expect from Widmer. IndianaRed (1553), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 18, 2006 <!-- B -->Bottle<!-- /B --> pours a slightly hazy medium redish brown with a small thin film of a head and spotty lacing. Aroma is nice duo of piney hops and medium dark sweet malts, rather subtle on both fronts. Flavor is more malty and rather wsweet. A bit of brown sugar and dark honey. Slight hop bitterness, not what I would cal balanced but nice for what it is. BOdy is rather heavy due to what tastes like a lot of residual sugars. Nice soft malty flavor and a bit light on the fiz. I was shocked to look this up and find it to be an IPA. I would need another 50 IBUs to consider it a better example of the style. At 7% ABV, yes, I would call that "Stealthy" DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 15, 2006 Thanks to Ken B. for sending 2 of these. Deep red pour with 1-finger, creamy, off-white head. Aroma of heavy fruit and red wine grapes, caramel malt. The flavor is hoppy, piney, with a mid-palate emergence of cabernet, brown sugar, spice, and fruit. Nice fruity finish with a solid balance and complexity.
