One of the best Red Ales I have had, granted I haven’t had a lot. Don’t usually notice the aroma, but this one smelled really good, really stood out. It is smooth and a very good tasting beer. Will miss it when it is gone as it is only seasonal. 12 oz. bottle poured into a chilled mug, at least the first bottle. Hope they keep this year round as I would like to add to my rotation.

Nice copper colored pour, medium beige head, aroma of sweet caramel, fruity and hoppy. Full body with ample crystal malt character, complex fruitiness with malt and hops blending well to provide a citrus piney overtone and good bitter balance. A very decent beer, hope we can see more at this level from this brewery.

12 oz bottle, from Whole Foods downtown Portland. Pours deep reddish copper with a small beigey head that leaves spotty lace. Aroma is rich with caramelly and dark fruity malts, counterpointed by floral and lightly citrus hops. The flavor features lots of full bodied rich malts as well, sweet and lucious with generous bittering hops to balance, lemon peel, grapefruit and hints of pine. Medium body and creamy carbonation. Quite enjoyable overall and more than I usuallsy expect from Widmer.

<!-- B -->Bottle<!-- /B --> pours a slightly hazy medium redish brown with a small thin film of a head and spotty lacing. Aroma is nice duo of piney hops and medium dark sweet malts, rather subtle on both fronts. Flavor is more malty and rather wsweet. A bit of brown sugar and dark honey. Slight hop bitterness, not what I would cal balanced but nice for what it is. BOdy is rather heavy due to what tastes like a lot of residual sugars. Nice soft malty flavor and a bit light on the fiz. I was shocked to look this up and find it to be an IPA. I would need another 50 IBUs to consider it a better example of the style. At 7% ABV, yes, I would call that "Stealthy"

Thanks to Ken B. for sending 2 of these. Deep red pour with 1-finger, creamy, off-white head. Aroma of heavy fruit and red wine grapes, caramel malt. The flavor is hoppy, piney, with a mid-palate emergence of cabernet, brown sugar, spice, and fruit. Nice fruity finish with a solid balance and complexity.

This is more a reflection of my personal tastes than the quality of the beer. I’m not a fan of reds and that’s about it.

Bottle from Ken (kenb) Thanks! Pours out a dark red color without much of a head. Smell is citrus, grass, and chocolate? Rich and flavorful taste that make this somewhat of a hopped up amber ale. A different, very unique IPA that seems to be what Twin Sisters IPA should have been. This one comes out as a very strong, hoppy PNW beer without really trying hard. A good solid effort, not sure if this is a seasonal, or a year round beer, but its pretty damn good.

12 oz bottle from local grocer. Small head, fair amount of lace, dark reddish brown color. Mild hoppy smell. Very nice full bodied taste, well hopped but not over the top. Very balanced. Good fresh hop aftertaste. I will put this up there with the Stone India Pale Ale, Very nice effort, i hope they keep producing this, best Widmer Bros beer yet!
