3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20 kangaroo (67) - Everett, Washington, USA - DEC 7, 2009
Pours a nice red. Great citrus hops smell. The flavor is citrus and pine hops well balanced by the roasty malt. Like a winter IPA but red. Very enjoyable. Leaves behind some lovely lacing.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Nena (963) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 6, 2009
Bottle. Pours a red orange with a moderate off-white head. Has a sharp hoppy aroma, with lots of mandarin orange and grapefruit citrus. Flavor is a bit of toasty sweet, fruity malt, with a pine and grapefruit hop finish. An above average winter warmer with a nice balance of sweetness and hops. I’m surprised it’s classified as an amber ale considering this is hopped up to IPA levels.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 brenn79 (1198) - Idaho, USA - NOV 24, 2009
12 oz bottle- Pours deep amber with a decent head, aroma is of resinous sweet hops, very pleasing. It has a sweet candy flavor to it, but doesn’t over do it. I can’t believe I am saying this but I am a fan of Widmer, compared to the other craft brewery that Budweiser has acquired (Red Hook) this brewery wins hands down every time.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 beerchugger (708) - North Canton, Ohio, USA - NOV 21, 2009
Pours a copper color with the head disappearing immediately. Smells of hops and caramel, rather reminiscent of an IPA. That’s a bit disappointing. There’s a layer of some sort of sweetness...I can’t quite put my finger on it though. Is it sugar, molasses, just caramel? It also has a bit of spice in there. It’s an interesting aroma. Now the flavor is rather unique. Immediately the hops are noticeable on the tongue but give way to some sweetness in the beer. As the beer goes down, the hops seem to come back. Then again another flavor of grains, nice typical amber beer flavors along with some spice come out. As the beer finishes, the hops come out again and wave good bye. This actually quite a bit of fun to drink. It’s unique and rather flavorful.
2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20 steelersfan07 (19) - Boise, Idaho, USA - NOV 18, 2009
I hated this beer. It poured redish dark amber, and the smell was pretty bold. I thought it tasted so horrible that I downed the six pack as fast as I could. Not going to buy it again.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 notalush (4174) - Denver, Colorado, USA - NOV 13, 2009
Clear amber pour, soapy lace - nose is that of a malty IPA (caramel and spicy, herbal hops) - the flavor is much the same - malt forward at first (caramel, toasted grains), but spicy hops arrive through the middle - the difference comes in a warming spicy character at the end that works well with the hops - simple but tasty.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 KAggie97 (3530) - Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA - NOV 13, 2009
Bottle. Pours a nice, deep amber with a healthy head of off-white that leaves a beautiful latticework of lacing. Nose features sweet, syrupy hops and grapefruit with just a hint of strawberry. Flavor is buttery hops with a nice bite of grapefruit in the finish. Tingly mouthfeel that is surprisingly thick. More IPA-esque than an amber, as I’m getting more hops than malt. Pretty decent beer.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 neepsntatties (886) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 23, 2009
12 oz. bottle from the Portland brewery. Colour... orange amber with thin head. Nose... quite hoppy with some malt. Palate... plenty of hops up front, some malt, slightly carboardy, wet earth and lingering hops on the back palate.
