4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Beautifully poured with a deep grapefruity hue; dark orange, some ruby, very beautiful. Thin ivory head with minimal lacing. Aroma is heavy with DIPA: grapefruit, orange zest, some pine needles all on the nose. Taste is very hoppy, more so than I was expecting. Yet not in an unpleasant way. Pale malt backs up the hoppy onslaught in this medium-full bodied brew. All the pleasantness of orange hop and grapefruit hop come alive in this semi sweet, medium bitterness drink. Hopheads would love this, and den though Iím not one, I do still like this drink very much. Like a very hopped pale ale, yet I like it.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle. Clear amber with a foamy light tan head. Aroma of light caramel malt with some light citrus and pine. The flavor is a great blend of bitter hops and lightly sweet caramel malt with no alcohol taste. Medium body with average carbonation and a clean finish. Great beer from Widmer, more hops than I remember but that is a good thing.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours amber-red w/ big foamy white head. Fragrant west-coast hops aroma; grapefruit and pine. Taste is dominated up front with bitter hops but fades to some sweet malt in the middle and ends with a solid hops bite. Notes of grapefruit, subtle caramel and brown sugar and some soapiness that isnít so pleasing. Nice texture...fairly creamy and smooth. Overall, very nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(12oz bottle). Pours slightly hazy amber with a pillow-tiop off-white head. Aroma is dominated by grapefruit. Taste is bitter with a nice malty backbone. Medium bodied with oily texture. Finish is bitter. Not what I was expecting. The hops are pretty bright and make this a nice beer.

Close to a Surly Furious but not as lively or complex. Iíll give it a thumbs up for a smoother finish over Furious, however. Enjoyed the hoppy/flowery aroma.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark amber, great head. Aroma is lots of hops, reminding me of an IPA. Taste is some toasty malt, with the hops and bitterness balancing, or even taking a back seat - perhaps because of some of the sweetness involved here. The finish is again mostly of fresh hops. Itís very good - hops to malts and back to hops again.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle-poured, this has good amber color with a thin, foamy head and a laid-back nose. But I wonder at the most recent high ratings Ė perhaps my six-pack has been too long on the shelf at Specís. The flavor starts off nice with pleasant but not deep maltiness and caramel; but doesnít grow in complexity. The same hoppiness continues right to the end without any candy finish; thereís not much relief from bitter. I tend to seek that heartier taste in ďChristmasĒ ales so was disappointed with this particular lot.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
bottle. Pours clear orange ruby color with slightly yellow / creme colored head. Aroma is lightly hoppy, pine / spruce, with some biscuit / toast malt notes. Flavor is nice and balanced, and malt profile more prominent here than in aroma, caramel, biscuit, with a subtle hop bitterness on the finish. Nice. Iíll say it reminds me alot of new belgiumís 2 below though, somewhere in between a malty APA and an english strong ale.

Approachable East coast-style Amber with muddled hop flavor on top of light caramel malt base.
