GAManiac (1123), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jan 15, 2009 12oz bottle from Buebie poured into a pint glass.
Pours a dark, clear brownish amber with a small off-white head that dissipates to a ring with a rogue swirl of bubbles along the top. Lacing is sporadic.
The aroma has toasted malts with a hint of caramel sweetness with a surprising floral hop aroma that was almost as strong as the malts especially when it warmed a little.
The taste starts with a slightly earthy hop bitterness and gives way to the sweetness of the malt backbone. The finish is dry with some pine bitterness lingering between sips.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a fairly active carbonation profile that amplifies the bitterness some.
This is a very good amber beer with a solid hop profile that keeps things pretty interesting. Tasty. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jan 14, 2009 Bottle. Pours clear amber with a small, fizzy, white head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is average malt (cookie, straw, meal), heavy hops (flowers, perfume, pine, citrus), average yeast (sweat) with notes of alcohol and rind. Medium bodied, alcoholic texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness. mybrainhurts (212), North Dakota, USA Jan 12, 2009 New to my area. Citrus and pine, juicy hop aroma, almost like a liquid christmas tree. Fruity and caramel malt for flavors. Citrus, hoppy dry finish. Alcohol is well hidden. This is not an amber. More in line with Imperial red ales. I like this one. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Jan 10, 2009 courtesy of googzoid10, another excellent extra.
Pours copper with white head.
Aroma is hoppy more IPA than announced with notes of citrus and herbal hops.
Taste is hoppy, smooth and well balanced with velvety mouthfeel, with more faint notes of malts.
Very good beer! IrishBoy (2685), Bakersfield, California, USA Jan 9, 2009 12 oz bottle from Enniskillen. Nose of piney hops and light caramel. Lightly hazy copper with a medium, glass lacing, beige head. Flavor is bitter ivy with some grapefruit. Definitely a way overhopped for an amber beer. Tastes like a very hoppy IPA. Rated as to taste not style. Pretty tasty. scrizzz (1247), kirkland, Washington, USA Jan 7, 2009 Good burst of pine hop aroma, clear dark caramel, minimal head. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, and the hops dominate. So I guess I’m rating this mostly on what I look for in an amber, not a pale. Still tasty and I’d drink more. Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jan 6, 2009 Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber with a 2 finger dense cream head and spotty lacing. Nose is mostly pine hops. Taste is caramel malt, pepper and resin. Medium mouth feel. Pretty good stuff. djd07 (721), Houston, Texas, USA Jan 3, 2009 On tap at Luckys. Has a dark cloudy amber wiith a medium light tan head. The aroma is a light hop with grapefruit and citrus. Tastes more like an IPA than an amber with citrus and a nice sweet hop finish. A complex amber ale from Widmer Bros.
