COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Give the gift of beer! More specifically, Brrr! The Widmer Brothers have handcrafted a special ale for the holiday season: a generous red ale. Not quite excessively hopped, with candy sweetness and a velvety finish. Perfect for celebrations. Prost!

Pours a deep mahogany color with heavy hops aroma and a hint of nutty malt. Tastes like a toned down IPA, but the bitterness is still there, finish is very nutty/earthy, unlike anything I’ve had before. Light/medium bodied and noticeable carbonation. Doesn’t seem like this beer should be a winter seasonal considering how bitter it is, wish rb had an IBU rating on this guy.

Pours clear ruby amber with a foamy beige head. Aroma toffee, floral and citrus hops, lots of pineapple and grapefruit. Taste is nice, there is a good amount of sweet malt and sweet and bitter hop flavors. Lots of flavor. Medium body, full carbonation.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2010 Draught. Very pleasant hop filled aroma on this one. One of the thickest lacing heads that I have ever seen. Fairly bitter taste throughout that seemed a bit unbalanced, especially for the usually tame amber ale style. Pretty decent seasonal if not at all what I was expecting from a widmer seasonal. EDIT: After having enjoyed quite a lot of this the last few months It is definitely the best winter seasonal that I have had this year. It is also in my opinion mis-characterized as an amber ale.

12oz bottle -

Review from old notes:

Aroma is light biscuity/doughy malts, nice grapefruit hop...slight honey too. Flavor has a nice grapefruit snap to it, cereal-like malts with a really light toasted grain note. Mouthfeel slightly tingly with a nice smooth finish.

Bottled on October 14. Poured into a glass mug. Pours a dark orange/brown color with a small layer of head, but it leaves good lacing. Smell is of sweet spicy hops. Taste is of high floral hops with toasted malts. Mouthfeel is very bitter, but yet smooth. Carbonation level is low and leaves a dry flavor in mouth. Overall, this tastes a lot like an IPA, but with spices added. Very great beer from Widmer and I’d recommend it to anybody for the price. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-18-2008 04:28:23

october 30,2009 stamped on the bottle. i’m not sure if it is bottled on or bb? either way, i drank it on 12/26/2009. clear reddish amber colored pour with an almond tinted off white head and lots of drippy lace work. the nose is really hoppy and numbing... mixed with florals, caramel malt sweetness, light pine/spruce and orange rind. it is also quite dirty, earthy and herbaceous... akin to standing next to a eucalyptus tree. lots of hoppy numbing on the tongue but it is also quite malty and rich... flavors of orange pith, caramel, citrus pith and earthy spice lead the way to a bitter finish and lingering pnw hoppy aftertaste. the medium body has a crisp sharp mouth feel when consumed from a glass. directly from the bottle it becomes super creamy yet it maintains the prickly mouth feel. 7.5/3/7/4/15/3.65

Hazy deep amber, thin beige head, foamy lacing. Floral and caramel notes. More bitterness than sweet, like a strong ale. Maybe it’s been sitting on the shelf all winter. Medium-bodied with a long finish. Too long.

Bottle poured a clear reddish amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of toffee, orange, tangerine and light spice. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of toffee, orange, light pine and light earthiness with a smooth dry lingering moderatly bitter finish.

Bottle from the famous hellbilly. Thanks dude. Nice malty aroma with some honey, caramel and a nice hit of citrus hops. Flavor is sweet and malty with the citrus hops showing themselves very nicely. Well done brew.
