355 ml bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Pours clear amber with a small frothy offwhite head that is rather slow to dissipate while leaving leaving some sticky trace on the glass. Smell is sweet, malty, slightly fruity and very tiny spicy with biscuits, cranberry juice, red apples, lingonberries, bread, orange zest, caramelized apples, slightly dry grass, toffee, lemon zest and cereal. Taste is slightly sweet, bitter, tiny fruity and herbal with caramel, biscuits, orange peal, lemon balm, pine needles, red apples, resinous wood, dried cranberries, lingonberry jam and hints of cloves. Mouthfeel is round, slightly astringent and light to medium bodied. Finish is bitter, tiny dry and herbal with biscuits, lemon balm, lemon peal, red apple skins, black tea, pine needles and slightly dry grass.

1" off white head.. good retention and lace.. the brew is a very pretty slightly deep amber. Nose is chock full of American hops and a descent amount of caramel and a bit more toasted malt... bunches or citrus with some piney hoppiness that I can only think of as maybe Simcoe.. pretty piney. Flavor begins the same as the nose.. but with some pretty pithy citrus hoppiness.. maltiness has plenty of toast with some very lite background chocolate essence.. the hops right now are very fresh.. so the malts are playing 2nd or 3rd fiddle, but the essence is still there... the hops are a bit oily (I like) on the finish with a nice medium body and carbonation.. very inviting though not a traditional Winter Warmer.. more of a Warmer with a PNW hop kick.

It pours deep amber color with ruby tinges and a head that is full and leaves plenty of lacing. It has aromas of caramel malts, dark fruits, some grass hops, and some wood flavors. It has flavors of dark fruits that produce a sweet sensation to start the flavor with and other flavors of piney hops, grassy hop, and malts. The other effect on the palate is smooth with moderate bitterness.

On tap in my home bar - poured into a New Belgium "Belgium style" glass. CO2 at 12psi - so plenty of frothy, off-white head and a nice lively carbonation that is probably a bit overstated for the style, but much to my liking. Had very high hopes with this American strong ale - expecting something similar to North Coast’s Brother Thelonious when I bought the keg. It turned out to be very different, though still good in it’s own right. What caught my attention immediately was the hop presence - I had heard that it had more than would normally be expected for the style, but though that with the extra age the hops might have died down more than they have. Still though, a robust brew with plenty of malt - a bready, toasted character with caramel and some dark fruits. But those herbal hop aromas follow into the taste with some pine and bitterness (although not overly so.) Nice dry finish that really helps to keep this offering in check. Not what I had expected, but glad to have it on tap. (After rating - I threw in some fresh raspberries we had sitting in the fridge and topped off the glass. Very pleasant addition that played well with the hop bitterness and dry finish. I strongly recommend trying.)

Sweet malty aroma of caramel, raisin, prune, chocolate, and bread. With grapefruity citrusy hop. Pours a hazy goldish brown color with small creamy whitish tan head. Sweet roasty malt flavor, raisin, caramel, chocolate, wood, resin, grapefruity hops. Full bodied, with medium CO2, astringent lingering hop bitterness. Lingering bitterness I'm not a fan of. I'll drink it, but rather have something else. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
