Grapefruit aroma with a touch of sweet malt. Grapefruit and orange hop flavor with smooth caramel malt backing. Some spiciness (almost like a touch of rye). Medium bodied. Easy drinking. 5000 (2900), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 8, 2006 Bottle: Deep copper, translucent, light carbonation, moderate to large off-white head, foamy, good retention, fairly decent lacing.   Hop nose, slightly floral, a touch of alcohol, maybe even a bit of berry.   Moderate hop start, slightly malty, bitterness fades quickly leaving a citrus and floral aftertaste.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, but quite nice.   Finishes with a sweet citrus peel sort of twang.   Good, but could stand to be a bit fuller in body and maltier.   Otherwise I can dig it.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 19, 2008 Rumor is that this is just one of the W series beers relabeled, but I’m not sure on that. Pours darker copper with a tall white head. Malty start with a big citrus hop finish. Notes of caramel and chocolate. Pretty nice big malty IPA. Earlier Rating: 12/13/2004 Total Score: 3.2 On tap at the Widmer Brewery. Pours a transparent amber with a small white head. Light fruity hoping in the aorma, some citrus hops. Flavor starts with just a touch of fruity malt, finished off by a bigger bitterness. Citrusy hop finish, with slight grapefruit notes. This was a nice hoppy brew, easy drinking and smooth. This brew should replace the springrun IPA as their bottled spring brew. Aubrey (2782), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 6, 2006 Updated: Dec 22, 2008Clear and deep amber with a head that left behind some nice lace. Invitingly sweet nose. Soft and creamy texture, not necessarily heavy. Really tasty malts, with lovely notes of toffee, bark and nuts. Hops were vibrant, with aromatic fruit such as apricot, pear, peach, plus fresh-cut grass, spruce tips and spring flowers. The rich sweetness of hard candy and caramel offset the flowery bitterness well. Fruity alcohol lingered on the tongue and then began to warm the throat a little. I enjoyed this one. RERATE: 2008. Appealing copper color with a creamy, lasting head. Smooth and solid body. Rich on the tongue. What a great beer. Toasty, cozy and easy to drink. Hints of smoke and wood. Sweetness was reminiscent of the Boston Baked Beans candy coating. Spicy, vibrant hops were full of grass, flowers, citrus and pine. Grapefruit bitterness balanced things out. Great beer. Kind of reminded me of Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale, but with a richer and bolder malt backbone. My new favorite seasonal. Nuffield (2749), Roseville, Minnesota, USA

It doesn’t fit the usual profile--it is so hoppy (lovely grapefruit and pine), so strong (abv), and so well rounded with malty foundations, I thought it must be a double IPA or something. It is definitely a fine beer. As the first beer I drank since Dec. 26th, I raised my glass in a toast of honor to John Django, newborn son of Jazz88--may there be a great life ahead for you, one that conceivably could take you to the next century, in the year 2100. That’s pretty mind-blowing to me. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA

Finally someone got this right. So many red ales were just bland and boring but this is right up front with a great caramel malty sweetness, and then you get this smack of bitter hops that bites you back with alot of citrus and fruit rinds. This is great, I wish they would bottle it. IrishBoy (2732), Bakersfield, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 9, 2009 12 oz bottle from Enniskillen. Nose of piney hops and light caramel. Lightly hazy copper with a medium, glass lacing, beige head. Flavor is bitter ivy with some grapefruit. Definitely a way overhopped for an amber beer. Tastes like a very hoppy IPA. Rated as to taste not style. Pretty tasty. notalush (2699), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 13, 2009 Clear amber pour, soapy lace - nose is that of a malty IPA (caramel and spicy, herbal hops) - the flavor is much the same - malt forward at first (caramel, toasted grains), but spicy hops arrive through the middle - the difference comes in a warming spicy character at the end that works well with the hops - simple but tasty.
