THOUGHTS: Lots of malt, lots of hops. Great balance. Nice, but not necessarily wintry. Berry-like hops notes made it more interesting. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium to dark, reddish amber with a large, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. The aroma had moderate toast, nutty and caramel malts; and light to moderate pine, citrus and berry hops. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and slightly bitter and acidic; while the finish was moderately sweet and bitter with a fairly long duration. There was caramel, malt, grain, nutty malt, pine hops, almost berry-like hops, and a little citrus hops. The medium body was a little oily with fizzy carbonation and a metallic finish.

Hoppy winter ale. Not a strong aroma but faint touches of floral hops with sweet malts. A little earthy. Nice dark or burnt caramel color with a white head. Weighty and carbonated palate. Hops hit you first with a mild woodsy and malty base. This drinks like a hoppy red ale. Not much spice as some holiday ales. The bourbon version is better.

Bottle from 99 Bottles (Federal Way, WA). Malty, caramel, some citrus. Amber brown color. Thick malt, hint of maple / good hop presence in mid, licorice, spice, cookies, light chocolate roast. Medium body, nice mouthfeel. Well made. A session winter brew with a NW hop twist. Refreshing.

Descent beer. Not much of an aroma. Not the worst winter beer but no where near the best.

Format: Bottle from Whole Foods, Redwood City
Appearance: Ruby amber
Aroma: Grapefruit, pine
Taste: Big hops up front with strong grapefruit, mango and some pine bark. Followed by smooth, light chocolate malts. Some bitterness and slight burn on the finish
Texture: Medium body / light carbonation
Overall: Rich Double IPA qualities with great balance of Red Ale maltiness... highly drinkable for fans of IPA/DIPA.

Pours an amber color with a nice head with a bit of lacing. Aroma of malt, caramel, fruit and bit of spice. Taste of malt caramel sweetness bit of citrus and spice. Decent bitternes and a dry finish. Moderate body, smooth with a nice feel. The 7.2% ABV is very well hidden. Nice beer to get you through a cold winter night.

I got this in a winter warmer variety 12 pack. This is a great winter ale. Not over bearing. A great mouthful of ale with just a touch of seasonal spices. This ale isn’t over done with malt or sweetness. I could do a session with this ale. Great color, sturdy head.

Pours a clear amber, with tan head. Aroma of spice and hops. Taste has deep notes of hops, with a malty finish. Smooth and a little caramel sweetness in there too. A nice red ale. Thumbs up.

On tap half pint at Gilly's Beer & Fine Wine in Rockville, MD. Densely hazy, nearly opaque, rusty dark brown with a khaki head and very good lacing. Aroma of pineapple, grapefruit and caramel with a touch of floral hops. Taste of pineapple, pine resin, caramel, grapefruit, bread, sweet red grapes and mango. Full/medium body and medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
