COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Columbia Hop was near extinction when we brought it back to create this crisp, easy drinking common ale. With a rich amber hue, Columbia Common, the new Spring Seasonal Release for 2013, has a Mild grassy and spicy hop notes are complemented by a fruity character and clean finish brought on by the use of hefeweizen and lager yeasts and unique malt bill. It’s the perfect beer for Spring. Prost!

Bottle. Pours a clear amber body under a small fizzy off-white head that retained as a thin film. The nose is lightly hoppy with some herbal notes and a lightly toasty maltiness. The flavor is quite hoppy for a Steam Beer, lots of spicy and herbal hops, rather fresh smelling. Some toasty and crackery maltiness. The flavor is rather hoppy with just a light bitterness, much more hoppy than any othe Steam Beer I’ve come across. The malt is pretty well in the background, just lightly toasty and on the drier side. Some lingering light bitterness and fresh floral and spicy hoppiness. Pretty nice beer with a distinctive fresh hoppiness.

Golden in color, clear with a thin head. Nice easy drinking ale. Creamy flavor rich and balanced very well. Nice spring seasonal.

12oz bottle from The Grapevine
Appearance: Clear golden with a small white head and good lacing
Aroma: Doughy, citrus, caramel and herbal
Taste: Toasted malts, biscuity, citrus, herbal with some bitterness in the finish
This was OK, but I didn’t like it. It did get better as it warmed up.

Crisp light amber coloured body with a bright copper glow and a nice one centimetre tall white head. Aroma of grassy and herbal hops, some light malt, a hint of caramel and a nice hit of yeast. Light-bodied; Sharp grassy and herbal hops with a good malt backbone, some light sugars and a little nutty finish - perhaps from the malt. Aftertaste shows a very light hoppiness with some grass and a less pungent flavour than Anchor Steam and a more refined palate for sure. Overall, a decent beer, and good for the style - simple to drink for the Spring and a welcome addition. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Giant Food in Arlington (Lee Highway), Virginia on 12-March-2013 for US$1.67 sampled at home in Washington on 15-March-2013.

Draft. Poured a clear bronze color with a small white head. Aroma was thin malts, with slightly more substantial hop notes. Flavor was pretty boring, light sweet malts, with light hops. Drinkable, but not my favorite California Common out there.

12oz bottle from Orchard Fresh, Orchard Park, NY. Golden amber with a tightly packed cream head; leafy, herbal, aroma; soft, caramel malt taste; with some cinder toffee to finish. Quite pleasant.

Not much in the aroma. A nice orange hue. This has a great first crisp bite. The beer is quite nice. Light yet with some Carmelly list flavor. Pleased.

Bottle. Copper color and a good sized wheat head that is thick and laces the glass. Immediately recognizable as s California common style from the yeast aroma. Dry malt and white cracker flavor.

Bottle from ABC Wesley Chapel. Pours a mostly clear copper amber color with a white head. Nose is bready with some lager and some light grassy hops. Flavor is similar with bread, some yeast, and some grassy hops. A nice common, light bodied and easy drinking at 4.7%.

The aroma is not unlike a cheap adjunct laden macro lager with dirt, yeast, and herbal hops. The appearance is light amber with a small head. The taste is really nice with malt, bread, fruit, and mild bitterness. The palate is smooth. Overall not a true common but a solid beer.
