Deadlift Imperial IPA is unlike any Imperial IPA you’ve ever lifted from the beer aisle. It has the strong hop flavor you’d expect from an Imperial IPA but no heaviness that could weigh down your desire to take another sip. The unique flavor stems in part from Nelson Sauvin hops imported from New Zealand. Deadlift’s other component, a simple but fully braced malt backbone muscles up enough malty sweetness and caramel character to spot the incredibly robust hop flavor and aroma.

Deadlift Imperial IPA uses Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand’s best hop growing region: South Island’s Nelson. This region produces some of the most flavorful hops found anywhere. These hops have an intense citrus, fruity, berry-like aroma and flavor that makes them unique. The result will surely be a welcome workout for your taste buds.

Pours a hazy orange color with a small white head. Nose has mellow notes of rapeseed, hay and chestnuts. Taste has a sweet base covered by a hoppy bite and long dry finish. Carbonation is average and the palate is quite rich, almost oily. This is quite nice but very sweet, the alcohol is well hidden.

Lovely pineapple aroma, citrus. Sweet malt flavor, orange, honey, citrus hops, bittersweet finish. Very fruity xIPA, quite sweet but hops and malt flavors are still very present and enjoyable.

Clear amber body with high head. Aroma has mostly tropical notes, passion fruit, pineapple, litchi, tangerine, light floral. Taste is light sweet with medium long lasting smooth bitterness. Body is full with medium to high carbonation. Oily and dry texture.

12 fl. oz. bottle bought at Bierland Hamburg under the Nelson Imperial IPA label. I like the Widmer Bros. bottle design. Dark golden in the glass. Fine carbonated, nice white head. On the nose fine light fresh grapefruit herb with vanilla in the background. Starts fruity herb, dry on the palate. Honey and malt. Not a hope hammer. I enjoyed it. Great one.

Buon finale amaro e luppolato. Merita!

Hazy orange, small white head. Nose is biscuity mal, oranges, pines hops, herbal notes, some sweetness. Taste is oranges, lemony notes, bready malt, hippy bitter dry finish. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, oily palate. Smooth balance, very nice.

Got this in Ireland where we are miles behind the U.S. In terms of quality craft beer. Having said that of the dozens of good craft beer (mostly American) that I have sampled, Widmer brothers Nelson Imperial IPA (Irish Name for Deadlift) is one of the best I have come across. It has a caramel undertone without the sweetness and a strong hoppiness that I think is important fir a good IPA. A strong serious beer.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2014 Definitely citrus tasting, with good hoppy flavour. Doesn?t drink, to me anyway, like an 8.5% abv. Enjoyed !
