COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deadlift Imperial IPA is unlike any Imperial IPA you’ve ever lifted from the beer aisle. It has the strong hop flavor you’d expect from an Imperial IPA but no heaviness that could weigh down your desire to take another sip. The unique flavor stems in part from Nelson Sauvin hops imported from New Zealand. Deadlift’s other component, a simple but fully braced malt backbone muscles up enough malty sweetness and caramel character to spot the incredibly robust hop flavor and aroma.

Deadlift Imperial IPA uses Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand’s best hop growing region: South Island’s Nelson. This region produces some of the most flavorful hops found anywhere. These hops have an intense citrus, fruity, berry-like aroma and flavor that makes them unique. The result will surely be a welcome workout for your taste buds.

Widmer Brothers Nelson Imperial Ale. My first pour revealed a clear, bright gold appearance, with a sizable, long-lasting foamy white head that leaves great lacing on an English tulip pint glass. A second pour from the 22 oz. bottle produced a darker and hazy glass. There’s no surprise that this beer features a generous floral hop aroma with some orange citrus and alcohol peeking through. I also confirmed the expected big malt character to this beer, which shines through from palate entry to the long-lasting finish. The sticky sweet palate entry ultimately yields to a dry and quite drinkable beer with a mid-palate flavor profile that reveals honeysuckle, cantaloupe and pineapple. There’s a strong, but far from overpowering hoppy and alcohol dryness in the finish. From my perspective, many other beers in this category overload the finishing hops, but I found this double IPA well-balanced and enjoyable; and, there’s really very little indication of the 8.6% ABV unless you read the label. Good.

Very "easy" but enjoyable imperial IPA with relatively thin body and well balanced bitterness.

Stickig alkohol. Oljig munkänsla.

Bottle. Pours Hazy Orange with a brilliant White head. Fruity hoppy nose with Peach and Mango. Strong malty sweetness. Caramel malt works well with the summery hops. Good bitterness on the end. Solid brew

When I g0t t0 this beer’s page and saw the sc0res, I felt like I must have drunk a different beer. What p0ured 0ut 0f my b0mber 0f Nels0n Imperial IPA didn’t seem like a d0uble IPA 0r an IPA. Maybe an APA. It had a pale amber, slightly hazy b0dy with a sustained yet m0dest fizzy head that pr0duced s0me slippery lace. It had a light ar0ma 0f malty sweetness and s0me earthiness. Very s0ft m0uthfeel. It was als0 light 0n the flav0r, n0t very bitter, just s0me malty sweetness and n0 alc0h0l. 0ld b0ttle? Bad b0ttle? I’ll revisit this, when s0me0ne else is paying.

Bottle at the Hangover. Loads of tropical fruit, really easy to drink. Couldn’t believe the % when I noticed it. None if the DIPA stickiness you’d expect. Just great hoppiness. I was a bit lit by this stage though.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein orangegoldenes Bier mit geringer aber schönen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr malzig herb, fruchtig, tropische Früchte. Geschmack stark malzig bitter, fruchtig herb, minimal würzig.

Bottle at Kaisla, Helsinki. Pours hazy golden with a little white head. Aroma of sweet caramel, fudge and ripe fruits. Taste is very sweet for a DIPA; it is more malts-driven than usual. Bitterness is medium at best. The palate is medium to full bodied, flat to moderate carbonation. A good sweet DIPA.

Nelson Imperial IPA version, 0,355L bottle, BB 15.04.2014. Pours clear golden with white head. The head stays, nice lacing. Aroma is berries, fruits. Taste is sweet caramel, fruity, buttery, malty, and some pine bitterness. Alcohol is rather well hidden; finish is long resin bitter with some lingering sweetness. Overall: I would like to try fresher version, but it’s still very nice DIPA.

Very fruity aroma, peaches and pineapples. Somehow reminds me of brewdog aromas. Taste is a bit too sweet, but still rather drinkable. Pleasant hoppiness. Quite okay, someone described this as "raw" which is just how this feels. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @ home: Pours slightly hazy cobber/orange with moderate white head. Moderate fruity aroma, powerful taste with both malt and some hop dryness.
