COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deadlift Imperial IPA is unlike any Imperial IPA you’ve ever lifted from the beer aisle. It has the strong hop flavor you’d expect from an Imperial IPA but no heaviness that could weigh down your desire to take another sip. The unique flavor stems in part from Nelson Sauvin hops imported from New Zealand. Deadlift’s other component, a simple but fully braced malt backbone muscles up enough malty sweetness and caramel character to spot the incredibly robust hop flavor and aroma.

Deadlift Imperial IPA uses Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand’s best hop growing region: South Island’s Nelson. This region produces some of the most flavorful hops found anywhere. These hops have an intense citrus, fruity, berry-like aroma and flavor that makes them unique. The result will surely be a welcome workout for your taste buds.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy light amber with medium head. Slightly yeasty aroma, with lots of floral hops. The flavor is aggressively hoppy, with grapefruit, pine, and floral notes - a nice hop profile. A pretty solid double IPA - a bit one-dimensional, but well-hopped.

Bottle, brought by a friend!
As Nelson Imperial IPA! Pours hazy orange yellow with a small creamy head. Smell has strong fruity hops, caramel and herbs. Starts strong hoppy, very herbal, fruity with some grapes. Finish is fruity with grapes, orange and a hint of pear, but also very herbal and slight warming. Nice one!

Bottled. Slightly hazy amber colour with a mediumsized off-white head that leaves lace. Aroma is sweet fruits, some sweet malts as well as a stinging tone from the alcohol. Flavour is tropical fruit juice with some gluelike sweetness (alcohol + hop in the mix probably gives this kind of not too pleasant gluelike sweetish notes). Not all too bitter in the finish, but does lack something to balance the alcohol up.

Sweet hay hops nose. Dark orange. Kind of flat light fast going short gritty grassy note. Not impressed.

Gold color. Scumy head. Sweet hop taste. Round sweet malt front. Big hop taste but not too bitter actually. The alcohol really brings this all together.

Rated from notes taken 28 Aug 2011 -- Very much enjoyed this. Might be my favorite beer from Widmer. Grassy hops and malt body are yummy.

"two Deadlifts on the site - this one has the full name, but the abv is too high (8.6 on the bottle). i was looking forward to this one, but it finished near the bottom at a recent hoppy tasting, even below some pale ales. bitter hops but not very floral. a little piney as well, but malt dominated. not what i look for in a dbl ipa. brrr is better. repackaged 22 as Nelson - fresher, better. average 3.0 & 3.7.
