3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber, dated 9/23/13. Pour is clear light amber, almost like an orangish gold with a frothy white head, plenty of lacing. Does look light in color for being an imperial pale. Aroma is nice. Light caramel malt with definite oak notes on the nose along with pineapple, pine and citrusy hops. Flavor is sweeter than I expected some nice hop presence but nothing assertive. The finish is where the "lager" part comes in. Almost totally clean with a slight bittering hop note that stays with you in between sips. The oak really comes through as well with some hints of vanilla. All the flavors are in balance and very soft and graceful which makes for an easy drinking imperial. Plenty of flavors but none dominate the palate. If you were to take a fresh burton baton and amp everything down a bit, that would be close to what this is. I'm finding this very enjoyable.

Bottle - pours clear copper with medium thick white head. Nose of faint hop - not much aroma. Taste is pleasant blend of hops, oak, and malt. Hop is definitely present, but very drinkable. Dry finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Golden color with a white head. Earthy, woody, hoppy, but venturing into a Belgian style yeasty flavor. Full, smooth, a bit strong which is expected with the alcohol content. An interesting one.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a clear orange/copper color with white head. Oaky, hoppy - piney, resiny, aroma. Flavor is more hop and less oak. Same piney resinous hops. Not a oak bomb. Pretty good.

India Pale Lager? Hmmm. Nice aroma of fruit, citrus. Medium body with a nice round taste. Firmly bitter finish. Oh, and a bit of oak.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a clear dark gold body with a large frothy white head that slowly faded. The nose is bright citrusy hops with a nice light note of raw wood and some light caramel. The flavor is really well balanced between the raw wood and the citrusy and piney hops. Finishes with a light honey an caramel malt sweetness balanced by a slight astringency from the wood. Medium bodied with a rather sturdy malt backbone. The alcohol emerges on the finish leading to a little bit of heat. Pretty nice beer, above average for Widmer offerings.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Compared to a DIPA, this really does seem crisp and drinkable. The wood-aging seems a bit unnecessary, but perhaps it helped to take the edge of this brew. Itís like a pils on steroids, which leans more towards citrus flavors rather than grass or spruce. Decent malt backbone with some toast and bread.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a half finger of head on a clear medium straw colored body.
The aroma has some mango, orange, lemon and a little wood.
The taste has a lot going on at once: mild honey sweet to moderate grapefruit bitterness, then mild oak and earth, finishes with moderate lemon bitterness.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
It borders on doing too many things at once, but it pulls through with an enjoyable and unique drink.

Nice and strong, and a nice flavor. Nice to have an Imperial Pale LAGER for a change.
