3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 29, 2011 Bottle. It poured a deep dark orange amber with a thin (less than 1 finger) fizzy white head that dissipated quickly leaving behind a tiny bit of residue floating on top which created some fairly nice sticky lacing.
The aroma was that of caramel malts, citrus hops and an earthy yeast with hints of orange and grapefruit.
It tasted malty and slightly bitter with a hint of caramel and orange at first and finished with a strong bitter hoppy flavor that had a nice grapefruit presence at the end. The flavor stuck around for a nice little while allowing the hops to settle nicely at the back of the throat.
Mouthfeel was light to medium in body and dry in texture with an medium carbonation.
Overall an exquisite tasting Pale Ale that left a very nice hoppy citrus flavor lingering, letting you really enjoy all aspects of this brew.

First beer that exposed me to Nelson Sauvin hops. I’m a big fan of those hops and as such, this beer really sat high on my list for a while. Nice pale ale with fruit flavors imparted by the NS hops.

"nice balance of malts and hops here, making this pale better than average pale ale. other than the balance and the nice floral hop aroma, nothing stands out, but it’s a solid rep of the style."

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A pleasant APA. I wasn’t expecting much considering their mediocre hefe, but this is a very well balanced mix of pine and caramel, citrus and bread.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Oriley & Conways, pours a light hazy yellow with really no head at all, the aroma has a decent touch of citrus and fruit at first, kind of surprised me, the flavor is much of the same, hop front end with a bitter finish that is balanced by the malt, not as in your face as I would have liked, but still a nice easy drinking beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a nice hazy yellow around the edges with mostly a nice light looking orange to brown color with a one finger white foamy head. For a bar pour, there was a decent half finger white foamy head and a nice light somewhat clingy foamy lacing.
The smell had a nice citrusy aroma running into the caramel malts nicely.
The taste was somewhat bitter but allowed a decent sweetness to come through in the caramel malts. There was a nice dry bitter citrusy/caramel-like aftertaste that lead to a crisp dry finish.
On the palate, it sat about a light to medium on the body and it had a nice sessionability about it. The carbonation was right on and there was nothing overbearing or under bearing.
Overall, in my opinion, this was a pretty good beer as there’s nothing bad about it. I also had it with some pulled crab sandwich that was gently buttered. Wow, what a nice day!

From the archives: Had this in Miami. From the pub, on the high street. Decent APA. I thought it was much weaker than 5.7%

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Amber with an etched white surface and excellent clarity. No lace. Smells herbal with a slight resin character and a bit of canned spinach alongside the crystal malt which is sweet but not overplayed. Slightly bitter with a good moderated malt through the center and a fine overall pale character. Nice and limited body with slightly low carb and an off dry finish. Nice beer.

My first favorite pale ale. I find this crisp and refreshing. It has a nice hop bite, some bitter citrus, but a healthy malt backbone. My favorites for pale ales now are Dale’s Pale Ale and San Tan’s Devil’s Ale, but this one still holds a place for me.
