COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed specially for the 2008 Oregon Brewers Festival
Full Nelson Imperial IPA perfectly adorns the Hopheads of the world and will put your taste buds in the famous wrestling hold! You will feel the full effect of Full Nelson's bitterness that is partially buried by the sweetness of the alcohol and the various Caramel malts. The aroma will body slam you with citrus, grapefruit and berry like tones reached through this imported New Zealand hop variety. The Nelson Sauvin hop comes from Nelson, New Zealand and is growing in a region famous for Sauvignon grapes. Full Nelson will have you begging to be "Tapped Out"!

Bottle pour at NHC. Pours a cloudy amber with thick foamy beige head and nice ringed lace. Nose of caramel, butterscotch, mild tropical fruit, onion. Another malt bomb. Medium body, mild bitterness.

12oz bottle from Redmonds. Amber-copper, big bubbly off-white head, nice lacing in the glass. Flowers, pineapple, mango, bread, butterscotch and pine in the aroma. Nice. Flavour is sweet malts - summer tropical fruits, hints of strawberry there, doughy bread and caramel. Theres a little grapefruit bitterness in with all that sweetness, though the bottle is 4 months old and its a bit mellow. Decent body and low carbonation with a lush, smooth mouthfeel combine to make this a pleasure to drink. Finish is bittersweet with the caramel and bitter Nelson Sauvin vying for attention. Must try to get a fresher one.

It seems I keep forgetting to rate these wider beers. I remember this beer as having a strong bitter hop taste to the point that the imbalance gave it a poor finish. Good but not great.

On tap at the local alehouse. Lovely full hops aroma. Flavor to match carried by a full body. Hard to complement this beer too much. A delicious IPA and at the top of it?s class.

Bottled (as Nelson Imperial IPA, 8.6%) at Monk’s American Bar, Stockholm. Clear amber, small head. Aroma of blue cheese and grapefruit. Sweet with medium-full body and rounded mouthfeel. Fruity with grapefruity hops. A bit syrupy with mild resiny bitterness. Unfirm.

Bottled as Widmer Nelson Imperial IPA. Pours amber with a rocky uneven head. Aroma from the hops that I get as a cross between peach and grapefruit. Fruit bomb of an IPA, yes the berry notes are really prominent. Reads a bit sweet and finishes long.

Bottle. Light grain and caramel for the malt, moderate perfume and orange for the hops, faint soap for the yeast, with hints of butterscotch, honey and light dried fruit. Head is average size, frothy, light beige with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is murky medium amber/orange. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet and lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, oily with a soft carbonation. A tasty beer, but to me it’s distant from a true DIPA.
