You will feel the full effect of Full Nelson's bitterness that is partially buried by the sweetness of the alcohol and the various Caramel malts. The aroma will body slam you with citrus, grapefruit and berry like tones reached through this imported New Zealand hop variety. Pours a clear golden orange on tap with fluffy off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of nice citrus and earthy notes from the hops, taste is a hop bomb with a hint of caramel malt back, finish is really bitter. Pretty solid, but nothing mind blowing.

Bottle. Hazy amber liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma of gooseberries, citrus, pine, tangerine, grapes, toffee and grapefruit. Taste is dry to light sweet and medium bitter with notes of grapefruit, tangerine, gooseberries and toffee. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Nice.

On tap at the Funky Buddha. Clear yellow pour with a fluffy white head. Citrusy/florally hop aromas. Nice balance of grapefruit/florally/citrusy hops and sweet caramel malts...

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a snifter. The appearance had a fairly nice looking bronzed orange color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was a light citrusy bittersweet refreshing tropical fruitiness of sorts in the smell. The taste was mainly bittersweet all the way through. On the palate, this one sat right at a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was sharp but on par for the style and for me. Overall, pretty good DIPA I would have again.

OBF 2008. Heavily hopped grapefruit bomb, sharp bitterness, pithy and dry palate scraper. Smelled nice, but a bit to sharp in the bitterness for my tastes, I’d prefer more floral hop notes and less bittering hops, but you can’t please everyone and I know a lot of people really dug this beer.

Bottle - pours clear copper with offwhite head and nice lacing. Nose is spruce, pine and grapefruit. Flavor adds caramel. Quite bitter with some sweetness. Boring for style but could be due to be due to the warm beer. Dry finish.

Bottle. Light grain and caramel for the malt, moderate perfume and orange for the hops, faint soap for the yeast, with hints of butterscotch, honey and light dried fruit. Head is average size, frothy, light beige with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is murky medium amber/orange. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet and lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, oily with a soft carbonation. A tasty beer, but to me it’s distant from a true DIPA.

On tap at Capone’s. An enjoyable, peppy brew. 9.7 ABV is well-hidden. This is a nicely balanced, full-flavored IPA.

Nice and heavy. A whole lot of hoppy flavor, a ton more alcohol. Excellent job, Widmer Bros.
