redgold07 (286), Fort Worth, Texas, USA May 1, 2008 Not too impressed by this one. Aroma is yeasty with lemon. Flavor is dry with lemon, yeast, and spice flavors. Pours a hazy golden color with a big white head.
On tap.
Beer_2000 (1135), Kristiansand, Norway Aug 7, 2008 355 ml bottle. Hazy golden body with a small white head. Aroma is fruity, but relatively neutral. Flavor is refreshing, fruity and quite typical German hefeweisen, maybe a bit more bitter. A hint of banana, citrus and yeast but quite ordinary. A bit thin body. otakuden (25), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 5, 2008 Widmer pours a lovely cloudy golden orange into my proper hefeweizen glass. Orange yeast and cinnamon hits my nose before gliding down my throat. Lemon mingles with the orange and lightly bitter hop spice to add a bit of tartness to the hefe. Easily drinkable, there is a bit of chewy yeasty wheat goodness which lasts throughout the beer. A hefty body to carry the orange, lemon rind zest and hop spice zing which encompasses the Widmer Hefeweizen.
I don’t really detect any banana or clove flavors which are very common in German hefeweizens. A more citrusy interpretation of the traditional hefeweizen style, Widmer is a good example of an American hefeweizen from the beervana west coast. Is it the best hefe I have ever drunk, no. but it gets points of nostalgia from me, along with taste and originality. smerkinb (5), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA does not count Jul 30, 2008 Had this before dinner--menu said draught so I’m assuming it was. Big banana smell--King Kong would appreciate it. Underwhelming taste. Hint of spice. Weak, thin and a bit watery with stronger carbonation. This was like trying one of those massage chairs at the mall--you can’t wait to relax and enjoy, but out of nowhere the damn thing grabs your legs and proceeds to torment you for 10 minutes. fidel (98), Livermore, California, USA Jul 27, 2008 Foggy yellow, citrus, grain, hops, crisp, yeasty, thin, refreshing carbonation. DandyWolfFloyd (209), Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 27, 2008 Aroma is a little bit banana and clove. It’s a pale yellow color, with a nice head. It’s flavor is watered down flavor, I’d expect from a hefe-weizen. It’s more tart, than I’d like, but not bad. A nice session.
