COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This long-time favorite brewers’ choice beer was created to hop us challenge expectations and keep us true. We now expose it to you. Using roasted barley, chocolate malt, and Midnight Wheat (tm), KGB has a color that is as dark as a torrid past, a body as full as a well kept dossier, and a taste a complex as a conspiracy theory.

12 oz, 2012 bottle of KGB Russian Imperial Stout. Black and opaque in the glass, with a semi-durable head. Limited lacing. Aroma: rich dark malts and aged alcohol esters. Cybercat (3281) - Georgia, USA - AUG 1, 2014
Pours a rich coffee-sable with a thick, chocolate-tan head that doesn’t stick around too long, but long enough for a very good impression. Inviting aroma has notes of roast malt, chocolate, quality coffee, and licorice, plus a snip of caramel. Flavor trots roast coffee, toasted malt, chocolate and caramel tones across the palate; a bit of woody hops peeks through. Texture is smooth and viscous, though fizz leaves a little to be desired. Take it into the custody of your stomach.

Split a large bottle with relatives on Christmas, in Nutcracker glasses. Aroma is relatively mild for the style but still a nice mix of malt, alcohol, light bitterness. Pours deep black with mild lacing; a quick swirl gives a nice espresso-like ring. Taste is malts, chocolate, some anise, booziness, bitter finish. Not the best of the style but still good. It’s no Stone.

Bottled: 2/3/11 A: Pours a dark brown ale, little to no head formation. Able to agitate a decent quilt of latte head. This dissipates quickly. Spotty lacing. S: Phenols, banana ester. Not sure why they released this beer. It’s a mess. Comes out way too hot. Hints of anise. T: Astringent, alcoholic. Wow, on first taste, I’m considering pouring this one. Bitter, sharp, chemical. Not good at all. M: Thin for the style with medium carbonation. Slicks palate with thick coat. Not a bad feel, but out of place nonetheless. D: Very, very poor. I just poured this out. Horrible example. The brewer’s should have their wages cut for this one. Embarrassing for Widmer. Serving type: bottle 03-14-2011

Poured from a growler filled at Jason’s in Ellicott City, MD. I’m a huge IPA fan but this stout is special. Dark, rich, lots going on. From aroma, to feel to finish, nothing but satisfaction. Lingers a bit like IPA’s do. Love to savor the finish. Will need more filled for Christmas Day!

On draught at Oregon Public House. Deep black color. Aroma is dark chocolate, licorice, and roasted dark malts. Taste is dark chocolate, plum, licorice, and smoked roasted malts. Really smooth mouthfeel and semisweet chocolate finish.
