3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Widmer, pours a hazy dark orange with a small beige head. Aroma brings out notes of dark fruit and heap loads of caramel. Flavour is sugary but not cloying, with brown sugar, candied dark fruits and toffee. A decent hop blast to this too. Very nicely balanced and constructed. Very good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cloudy amber an thin off-white head and moderate lace. Boozy - rum/bourbon - aroma, with oak, vanilla and dark fruits. Taste follows, more of the bourbon than the rum, with a nice dark fruit complexity. Full body, minimal carbonation, sticky mouthfeel and a boozy finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From the 650 ml. bottle dated July 19, 2012. Almost two years old. I opened this as my 2014 Easter beer. The pour is deep mahogany amber and reddish hue with a lasting off-white head. The aroma is full of barley malts, dark fruit-like characters, molasses, and sweetness. It still smells like it has some of its 10.2% ABV punch after two years. The body is medium and relatively smooth. The taste goes right to my head in no time with its sweet barley malt character and modest bitterness at the end. After two years the alcohol is not entirely integrated but it is also unoffensive.

Pours deep amber into a snifter. Tan medium length head recedes to hug rim. Dark caramel aromas. Sweet caramel upfront turning to mild earth in the still sweet finish.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, 2012 vintage. Pours a copper orange with a dull glow. Modest ring of creamy beige head throughout the glass. Odd spots of lacing. Really bright and hoppy nose, potent in fact. Has an intense citrus, caramel malt, jet fuel vibe to it. Lots of life left in the hops after 18 months. Sharp florals, light citrus, and pine. Definitely packing heat at 10.2% and not shy about it... fits its moniker. The indication is this would age well and it reminds me of Old Boardhead, but with more emphasis on hops.
