Bomber from Capone’s, aging about a month. Pours clear dark copper with 1-finger creamy off-white head. Nose is caramel malt, fruit, hops. Tastes rich, caramel malty, with notes of fruit, hops, and some honey and spirity hints in the mid-palate. Finishes malty, with a medium palate heft, mild fusels, and moderate complexity. This one is good, but not elite.

Tap at The Green Growler, Croton NY. Nice taste and aroma. This was good. Fisnish is dry despite hop resin the taste. I really ought to try this again.

650 ml. bottle. Vintage 2012. Bottled 07/18/12. Pours a thick well retained ivory head, with some lacing, over a clear, amber (SRM 15) body.....nose is toffee/caramel, pine, citrus peel, licorice...... taste is sweet treacle, toffee/caramel, leading to pineapple, pine, with a moderate lingering bitterness......mouth feel light of medium, alcohol heat present and a bit raw, carbonation low. This is a light take on a Barley Wine and both the hops and malts were, apparently, used with a light hand. The mouth feel is very light for the style. Additionally both the aromas and flavors are rather simple. This does not taste bad, it just isn’t quite a Barley Wine. Perhaps with aging it will improve. BJCP 7/3/14/3/7

Bottle at Freakin’ Frog, Las Vegas; vintage 2012, featuring Bravo hops
Clean dark amber color, with medium sized head. Light aroma of malt and caramel. Smooth and round mouthfeel, medium body strength; it has some caramel and malt flavor, with a light nutty touch, moderate sweetness, and correct bitterness.
Strong beer, not enough malty to be considered a Barley Wine.

GTAEgeek (1223) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - OCT 26, 2012
Sample from the Decatur Craft Beer Fest. The pour is gold, with a small head. The aroma is caramel, butterscotch, pine, and resin. The flavor is very sweet, with a nice bitterness. The mouthfeel is heavy, very sticky and smooth. Overall, this is a strong, nicely balanced, syrupy and delicious beer.

Tmoney99 (10660) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 16, 2012
Bottle 2012. Poured clear reddish brown color with a moderate frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate dark fruit, bubblegum and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a dry smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a complex solid beer.

portableparty (1911) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - OCT 15, 2012
2012 22 oz. bottle. Pours a deep red amber with a large sudsy khaki head that slowly resides to a soapy film and lacing. Aroma is sweet and bitter with fruity floral hops and caramel malt. Taste again shows a sweet bitterness which includes floral fruity hops and toasty caramel malt and a gentle spice in the finish. Palate is full and slick with a warm drying finish. Pretty enjoyable Barley Wine that has a nice sweet fruity flavor that stands out.

Pours clear copper color with light tan head. Molasses, pine and grapefruit aromas with some alcohol. Sweet molasses and toasted malt flavors with some citrus and pine. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. A decent hoppy American style barley wine.

Draft at Moriartys. Poured a clear dark copper with a large tight head. Golden raisins. Pinecones. Burnt orange peels. Vinyl. Peppercorns. Anbesol. Like a whiskey wine spiked with turpentine. Very nice palate. Good stuff, though definitely a sipper!
