3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
"Pretty by the book american style barleywine. aggressive on the hops and the alcohol while still managing to showcase the malty backbone of caramel, toast, and slight fruitiness. It’s a nice BW, but at a price point significantly higher than old stock, old foghorn, or old guardian, it’s going to be a on timer."

(2012 vintage at CCBP) Draft... Brilliantly clear and new penny-copper with a mid-sized, creamy, white head that hangs around for the long haul. Fruity, malty nose - berries, citrus and rich, medium-roast malts. Full-bodied with a super silky mouthfeel and airy carbonation. Bittersweet flavor - citrus rind bitterness suppresses toffee and honey malt sweetness, but not by a wide margin. Tongue-numbing, bittersweet finish - more bitter than sweet.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Widmer in Portland, OR. Nose has all of the maltiness, but only a bit of the floral hops. The hops show up in a bitter finish, but quickly disappear in the aftertaste. This beer is sweet all over, with notes of brown sugar, and the alcohol is masked pretty well. All told, a pretty standard Barley Wine offering.

4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Had at the Widmer Brewery in Portland. I constantly say I don’t like Barleywines, but here is another one that I liked. Maybe it means they did it wrong, but whatever. Sweet, hides alcohol, smooth, sold.

650 ml bottle, vintage 2013, yellow label and wax, Limited Edition No. 11. ABV is 10.2%. Featuring X-431 hops. At Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Amber colour, large head, slightly off-white. Strong sweetish aroma, notes of caramelized orange marmalade, notes of molasses and some fresh oranges too, hints of oak. Rich flavour, sweet and malty as expected, but not cloying or sickening. Citrus fruit and caramel again, with distinct bittering hops in the finish and aftertaste. Warming mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Widmer Brothers Gasthaus. Large caramel nose, some fumes. Clear copper/brown color, filmy head, and good lace. Caramel initial, Twists around to balance in mid and then flatten out a bit. Finish brings back the caramel, with a bit of hopping. Heavy body, and quite smooth. Almost a caramel bomb, but not quite. Very pleasant sipper.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Widmer, pours a hazy dark orange with a small beige head. Aroma brings out notes of dark fruit and heap loads of caramel. Flavour is sugary but not cloying, with brown sugar, candied dark fruits and toffee. A decent hop blast to this too. Very nicely balanced and constructed. Very good.

2012 bottle. Slightly hazy copper pour with a small off-white head. Aromas of dark fruits, figs, brown sugar, and toffee. The abv is slightly noticeable on the nose. Flavor is warming dark fruits and toffee with notes of caramel. This has aged nicely. Very respectable brew.

brewed in July 2012, drank in July 2014; brewed with bravo hops; amber color; fairly bitter, hoppy aroma for a barleywine; a fairly hoppy barleywine with a good deal of floral hops on a semi-sweet malt base; well balanced
