Poured a caramel color with a thin white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of port, lemons, raisins, and caramel malt. Taste of caramel malt, very sweet, some raisins, and lots of alcohol.

Pours clear light brown with average head. Aroma is big with hops, earth, and citrus. Taste is malt, citrus, spice, and a little yeast. A clean hoppy finish similar to an IPA. This could be somewhere between an IPA and a barley wine.

On tap at Holy Grale, Louisville. Poured into a small snifter. Medium copper pour with a fine, tan head. Nice lacing. Nose is resins, caramel, and a slight hint of hops. Flavor is caramel, alcohol (though not hot), and a little hop in the finish. Cherry/stone fruit. A little juicy fruit taste in the finish. Medium full mouthfeel. A very nice barleywine. ---Rated via Beer Buddy from my iPad.

Everyone with me as the exception was very impressed. Caramel colored pour with an off white head. Aroma was sweet and candy like. Taste was sweet and bitter with and alcohol burn. Ok, just not a huge fan.

Bottle, 2012 vintage. Pours a copper orange with a dull glow. Modest ring of creamy beige head throughout the glass. Odd spots of lacing. Really bright and hoppy nose, potent in fact. Has an intense citrus, caramel malt, jet fuel vibe to it. Lots of life left in the hops after 18 months. Sharp florals, light citrus, and pine. Definitely packing heat at 10.2% and not shy about it... fits its moniker. The indication is this would age well and it reminds me of Old Boardhead, but with more emphasis on hops.

Bottle. Pretty good. Rich raisiny maltyness, fairly sweet and all that, some nice saltyness in the finish, fairly soft mouthfeel, but quite full.

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2006 Rating #1 Tap @ 2004 Toronado Barley Wine Festival (6 3 8 3 17). Deep amber color. The alcohol is ever present in the aroma. Not at all sweet but it was smooth and fruity (cherry). Rating #2 Tap @ Toronado 2005 barley wine festival (6 3 6 3 15). A golden amber color with a laced off-white head. Smooth with caramel sweetness.

Baie sterk. Draught, poured medium brown with medium head, little lacing. Barley aroma, almost overpowering with pine and fruit. Full malt flavour, caramel, and sweetness. Lasting sweet finish. This was pleasant, but I’d only want one at a time.
