2/21/04. On draft at Toronado Barley Wine Festival ’04 in San Francisco, CA 2/21/04. Pours a dark amber color with a thin, off-white head. Not much lacing, spotty. Light aroma, yeasty sort of like a Belgian. Flavor was mildly yeasty as well, not that hoppy with pale-amber malts. Very bubbly body, fizzy yet hot. Sort of creamy too. All over the tongue. Finish is bright and hot. A little too much. It’s kind of interesting, but I doubt it will get much better with age either.

bottle at perkeo’s gathering. decent barley wine. some prune and fig aromas, golden syrup sweetness with some vanilla essence and pear schnapps, quite full-bodied, perhaps a little sweeter in the finish than i would like but still quite good

Poured a caramel color with a thin white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of port, lemons, raisins, and caramel malt. Taste of caramel malt, very sweet, some raisins, and lots of alcohol.

Bottle:   Deep amber, copper hued, large frothy sandy head, fairly nice lacing.   Somewhat of a green hoppy nose, malty, and alcohol.   Seems slightly green.   Very green up front, hoppy but not biting, malty, but not heavy.   Seems like a light example, very young, without much complexity.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Somewhat of a bright and young Barley Wine, hoppy but not too bitter, malty but not too heavy, with a citrus peel and pith background.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Nothing real special about this one other than it hides the 10.2% ABV really well.   I was thinking big English like Barley Wine, but what I got was pretty damn average.   Piss!!!!

Tap. Pours clear deep amber with a medium creamy off-white head that dissipates with nice lacing. Aroma is pine, citrus and wood. Flavor is medium sweet malty, with caramel, pine and citrus notes. Light bitter finish. Very alcoholic throughout, including a strong warming finish. Nothing special.

Pours clear light brown with average head. Aroma is big with hops, earth, and citrus. Taste is malt, citrus, spice, and a little yeast. A clean hoppy finish similar to an IPA. This could be somewhere between an IPA and a barley wine.

On tap at Holy Grale, Louisville. Poured into a small snifter. Medium copper pour with a fine, tan head. Nice lacing. Nose is resins, caramel, and a slight hint of hops. Flavor is caramel, alcohol (though not hot), and a little hop in the finish. Cherry/stone fruit. A little juicy fruit taste in the finish. Medium full mouthfeel. A very nice barleywine. ---Rated via Beer Buddy from my iPad.
