2010 vintage on draft served in a tulip. Deep red color, light head. Good lacing. Malty sweet alcohol aroma with a hint of florals. Smooth, full body. Assertive malt flavor with alcohol and a nice trailing hop finish. Flavors intensify as the beer warms. Wonderful barley wine

Quite good. Strong barley wine flavor. No alcohol heat. And not boozy, which is a welcome change in this style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bottle. brewed 7/19/12 featuring bravo hops. a clear ruby beer with a stable, medium, cream colored head. big, sticky, resiny, light colored fruity hops lurking in there. fruity and estery flavors with a good hop balance. hops have a blend of floral and light colored fruits. malts are bold with moderate sweetness and faint ripe red apple tones. nicely balanced and drinkable for only being a few months old. not wickedly hopped like some west coaster BWs. tastes good!

Draft at Moriartys. Poured a clear dark copper with a large tight head. Golden raisins. Pinecones. Burnt orange peels. Vinyl. Peppercorns. Anbesol. Like a whiskey wine spiked with turpentine. Very nice palate. Good stuff, though definitely a sipper!

copper orange pour - aroma of pine and grapefruit - rich brown sugary malt flavor followed by orange/grapefruit and all of these flavors linger. The alcohol is evident but everything is at an almost perfect mix.

22 ounce bottle into snifter; 2012 vintage, bottled 7/19/2012. Pours lightly hazy orange copper color with a 1 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of orange zest, lemon zest, tangerine, pineapple, caramel, toast, brown sugar, biscuit, toffee, floral, grass, light pine, and floral earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop and malt notes; with good strength. Taste of orange zest, lemon zest, tangerine, pineapple, caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, biscuit, floral, light pine, and floral/toasted earthiness. Slight earthy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, pineapple, caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, biscuit, floral, light pine, and floral/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity of hop and malt flavors; with a great hop/malt flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent barleywine style. All around great balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Not all that much in the aroma for a barley wine. Maybe some honey, but not really molasses. I really love this style but as usual I just don’t think these guys make beer that’s all that great. This a low barley wine score for me.

A - Pours an almost clear amber-orange with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of grapefruit, pineapple, tropical, and floral hops with sweet caramel and biscuit malts with a bit of booze. T - Starts off with some grapefruit, pineapple, tropical and citrus hops with some bitterness and some sweet caramel malts. Through the middle, some resiny pine and floral hops come through with some more bitterness and some sweet biscuit malts. The finish is a mix of grapefruit, pine, and grassy hops, bitterness, sweet caramel and bready malts, and some booze. M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry, bitter, and warming finish. D - Very drinkable. Nice hoppy barleywine. Good overall balance and body. Good hop profile.

2013.03.09 - Widmer Brothers Old Embalmer '12 - 22oz (?) bottle in pint glass. 2012 Vintage. Aroma: very nice balance of hops and sweetness. Appearance: Pours around 14 on SRM scale. Fairly light for barley wine, lighter than Newcastle Brown maybe. Very vigorous head/carbonation, 1-2 inch head, sticky white. Taste: very nice. I don't even know how to describe. Good balance of hops and malty sweetness. I pretty much slammed this bottle, I'm reviewing as there is literally one drink left. Very tasty, good hop flavor without hops in your face. Palate/Mouthfeel: Aroma 8/10, Appearance 4/5, Taste 8/10, Palate 4/5, Overall 16/20
