650 ml bottle dated 19 July 2012. Pours a nice looking reddish copper color with a small white head that has poor retention and soon fades to a splotchy film. The aroma is strong with apricots, sherry, toffee and floral-ish hops. The taste is malts forward with caramel, toffee, sherry, bitter cedar, and some mixed apricots and mangoes. The palate was just a bit thinner than I would prefer(but it seemed to work) and the carbonation was soft. Finished a tad short . Overall: Very tasty barley wine.

I really love big beers, but I was not so much in love with this one... I have aged this for a year, but was a bit disappointed in the flavor and aroma. Still enjoyed it... but I expected more...

Tap at Roasthouse Pub. Pours clear amber with a small, fizzy white head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is caramel and toffee malt, earthy and spicy hops, peppery alcohol, dates and candied fruits. Flavor is sweet malt, medium alcohol, fruity esters, medium hops and bitterness with a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

From the 650 ml. bottle dated July 19, 2012. Almost two years old. I opened this as my 2014 Easter beer. The pour is deep mahogany amber and reddish hue with a lasting off-white head. The aroma is full of barley malts, dark fruit-like characters, molasses, and sweetness. It still smells like it has some of its 10.2% ABV punch after two years. The body is medium and relatively smooth. The taste goes right to my head in no time with its sweet barley malt character and modest bitterness at the end. After two years the alcohol is not entirely integrated but it is also unoffensive.

Bottle 65 cl. Vintage 2013, "Featuring X-431 Hops" - whatever that is. Pours amber with a slight haze and an off-white head. Oxidized biscuity malts in the nose and a honeyish touch. Rich body with lots of crystal malts but enough of hops for balance and a warming alcohol finish. Fairly solid US-style Barley Wine.

Old Embalmer ’12. An interesting Barleywine. Pours a light coppery gold with a thin off white head. The aroma is well hopped with light floral and spicy hop notes with a rich and malty toffee and nutty profile. Well balanced profile with light sweetness and a mild resinous and citrus hop. Bitter and warm on the finish with cloaked alcohol. A nice big brew.

Fairly heavy on the caramel, some dried fruit and quite complex. Very nice, perhaps a bit on the sweet side.

Bottle: Courtesy of JCW. Aroma of sweet citrus, toffee, light honey, and slight hints of banana bread. Pours a transparent amber with a small white ring for a head. Caramel and toffee up front. Slight hints of banana bread, honey, and candi sugar. A light bitterness is added in the finish. Sticky and syruppy mouthfeel.
