Cloudy amber an thin off-white head and moderate lace. Boozy - rum/bourbon - aroma, with oak, vanilla and dark fruits. Taste follows, more of the bourbon than the rum, with a nice dark fruit complexity. Full body, minimal carbonation, sticky mouthfeel and a boozy finish.

mcberko (7236) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 10, 2014
On tap at Widmer, pours a hazy dark orange with a small beige head. Aroma brings out notes of dark fruit and heap loads of caramel. Flavour is sugary but not cloying, with brown sugar, candied dark fruits and toffee. A decent hop blast to this too. Very nicely balanced and constructed. Very good.

maekchu (2291) - Hirakata, JAPAN - AUG 13, 2014
On tap at Widmer Brothers Gasthaus. Large caramel nose, some fumes. Clear copper/brown color, filmy head, and good lace. Caramel initial, Twists around to balance in mid and then flatten out a bit. Finish brings back the caramel, with a bit of hopping. Heavy body, and quite smooth. Almost a caramel bomb, but not quite. Very pleasant sipper.

Glowing amber, very low carbonation. Fruity nose, smooth, vinous, dry palate. Not as sticky as most, but not as suitable for pairing with cheese or other food.

jsquire (3562) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - FEB 4, 2006
April 2004 bottle courtesy of JCW. Golden amber color with a thin off white head that left nice lace. Nose is of wet grains, burnt sugar and hair spray. Tastes include cereal grains, rich buttery caramel and some cardboard that I attribute to its age. Nice enough barley wine.

Draft. Rich amber beer with a dark cream colored head. Citrus (grapefruit) aroma with light summer fruits. Grapefruit and light tropical fruit flavor with plenty of malt and caramel. Medium bodied. Tropical fruits and grapefruit lingers with malt and a light sweetness. Well balanced. Easy drinking for 9.5%.
