A pinch of black malt and a splash of roasted barley break this IPA apart from tradition, Cascadian Dark. Join the shady revolution.

A black IPA that’s decent slightly above average. Nothing immensely special or exciting, the dark malts become a little too overwhelming in the end. (Could be because the bottle i had was a couple of months old.)

33 cl bottle @ Kaisla, bottled 07.05.2013.
Aroma is sweetish and fruity with roastiness and cocoa. Flavour has cocoa, roasted notes, some hops and baking stuff. Dryish finish with more hops and gooseberry bush. Feels floury. Better than I expected.

Reviewed from notes. She pours a jet black color and leaves the same colored body that had a nice tan half finger head appeared for thirty seconds and slowly settled into the body. No carbonation was seen rising because the body was too dark. Tan foamy lacing was left around the sides of the glass. The smell has the hops and pine up front with just a bit of citrus in the background. Some roasted coffee tones came out as the beer warmed. The taste has a roasted coffee up front with the hops and pine taking more of a secondary role. Some smokiness came out in the taste as well. On the palate, she sits about a medium with a good creaminess to it, and has adequate carbonation. Overall, I’m glad I had this winters batch, as I had last years pretty late, nothing changed, this is a superb black ale that I would definitely have again.

12 oz. bottle. Pour is very dark brown with some blackish and red tones when held up to the light. Has a light tan head which diminishes quickly but leaves lacing. Smell is dark roast with some caramel, a bit of coffee, and the spicy and piney hop notes that I souls expect. Taste is rich with a bitter/sweet bakers chocolate note which mingles with a tangy citrus hop finish. Mild bitterness between sips, pine needle essence in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium, true to the style. I'm not blown away but it is pretty solid, many of these black IPAs that have been coming out are just a muddled mess of flavors that don't mesh, but this one is balanced and drinkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours and looks like a stout, but you notice the hops on the aroma. Hops cover the malt and roast grains, but there still in there, in the background. Nice creamy beige head. Smooth and velvety

Bouteille:Pours - as expected - literally pitch black with a mid-sized and lacy tanned head, dry grapefruity hops, but also roasted malt and vanilla and wood in the nose; moderate bitter and slight sweet flavour, quite soft and medium bodied; toasty and slightly sour finish, not extremely hoppy. Kind of a well hopped Stout…
