A pinch of black malt and a splash of roasted barley break this IPA apart from tradition, Cascadian Dark. Join the shady revolution.

In the glass, a beautiful dark brown and ruby color with an off-white head. Nice roasted/charred malt aroma which follows into the taste. A bitter dark chocolate flavor follows with a creamy texture on the tongue. The hops, while quite obviously present here as they should be for an IPA, are exceeding well balanced with the charred malt body. If you were to imagine what a black IPA should taste like, this is it. All around excellent beer; I hope we’ll be seeing this again in the future.

bottle. charcoal body, tan head. mild roast and black patent malt in the nose; mild starchy hops. light to medium body, somewhat frothy up front but lacks distance. mild to medium bitterness for IPA. black patent malt and roast are out of place. overall it lacks any major flaws but also lacks depth and character. forgettable.

On draft at Hans’ Bier Haus in Houston. Pours pitch black indeed with tan soapy head. Lots of malt and a decent array of hops too. Seemed a bit weak and watery for my taste, but very easy to drink and smooth. Decent and different, but nothing extremely special.

Pint glass at the Draught House- solid black in color, small tan head atop the liquid surface that laced very well, aroma of a roasted malt and hops. Hits the mouth with a low- medium body, malt is slightly weak but still tasty, holds up fine in the middle, finish is acidic and lingering. Decent.

Spicy and sweet. Kinda like an pale ale mixed with a porter. Very good example of a drinkable black ale. Scored this one for $6 a 6-pack at Zipps in Mpls. Would buy again at that price.

On tap at the Gingerman Ft. Worth. Black pour with a tan head. Aroma is roasted and hoppy. Taste is very hoppy and caramel. The taste feels forced with hops. Thin mouthfeel. Fantastic aroma.

12 oz bottle from Tournament Liquors. Pour is...well Pitch Black with a white head and great lacing. Nice hoppy aroma and flavor with an absolutely smooth finish. Really good beer, I especially love the way it looks.

On tap at flying saucer. Pours a dark brown almost black with a small frothy beige head. The aroma is a floral hop with pine. Medium mouthfeel with a nice balance of malt with pibey hops and a nice bitter finish. Hides the alcohol well making it easy to drink.
