Bottle; Pour is Dark Amber with a tan head. Average retention, very light lacing in this snifter. This is a downhill brew. Nice bourbon, piney hop nose. Vanilla, caramel, bourbon, oak; but the problem? Itís watery and Light. What is the point in making a brew that is light bodied and watery ; A bourbon barrel aged American Strong Ale that is watery and light bodied? I think not. Meh.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cheers to my sister for giving me this for Christmas! - A cloudy light amber brew. Little to no head. Some carbonation. Aroma of woody charcoal. Flavor is dominated by vanilla and charcoal notes. Bittering backside. Smooth drinking, not overly sweet. Lot going on here. Not sure where itís heading though. ABV is hidden. Interesting overall.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A little hazy, peachy/ruby appearance with a small tan head. Mild to moderately sweet toffee, sweet oaky, fairly mild yet tasty aroma. Really a nice, sweet oaky, vanilla, mild bourbon, rich caramel malty flavor without being overly sweet. Dry finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hazy amber with a light head. Smells like lightly sweet bourbon cherries or other fruit covered in chocolate and marshmallow. Lots of vanilla too. Interesting flavor. Caramel, chocolate, dark fruit like cherries wrapped up in wood, bourbon, vanilla, and barrel. Itís not bad but there are two separate tastes here. The first is candy and fruit and the second that follows is fairly strong wood and vanilla. Too much so really. Some berry notes as it warms . Medium body and a soft mouth feel. Thanks for bringing this by Keith.

Draft at Brass Tap. Amber pour with an off-white head. Aromas include caramel malt, oak, vanilla and alcohol. Similar flavors with the alcohol fairly noticeable, but one would expect that at 9.4%. Overall pretty nice.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The beer is a clear dark amber color with an average, pale beige, pillowy head which is mostly diminishing and leaves some scattered lace rings. The nose is typical for a bourbon aged beer with herbal bourbon, light vanilla, and toasted caramel with also faint nuts and grapefruit. The flavor is similar with the barrel notes making up the bulk again with similar features as the nose; also some pecans, an earthy nature, and light grapefruit. The bitterness is more than moderate from both hops and the bourbon, and the sweetness is pronounced but balanced. The beerís palate is warming, velvety, less than lively, and medium to full. The beer finishes warming, much longer than the original but mostly leaving vanilla, bourbon, and faint grapefruit still. I had the original when it came out 5 years ago and I remember much more citrus hops and a very clean, drinkable beer. This one has gained a nice warmth, the obvious barrel presence overshadowing the original, and something completely different from the original. I am curious which brand of bourbon barrels were used because I got a significant herbal note that I did not find in the original. Something much different from the original but still enjoyable.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber, bottled 8.30.10. Pours slightly hazy orange with red highlights and a small tan head. Aromas of grapefruit rind, bourbon, oak, butter, brandy-soaked oranges, and rum cake. Flavor is orange and citrus peel, oak/wood, and light bourbon. Also present are alcohol, slightly bitter tangerine, a little boozy raisin, and buttered cake. Medium carbonation, warming, and quite refreshing. A pleasing citrusy, bourbon-y, tasty beer. Nice and warming; Iím enjoying sipping this by the fire.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: FEB 5, 2012 This beer pours a deep amber with a thin off white head leaving some good lacing down the sides. The aromas are musty closet, vanilla, bourbon. The mouthfeel is sticky and sugary with a light sweetness and a bitterness going down the throat. This was quite a surprise for me. I really liked this one! Cheers!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown, good head. Aroma is dark roasted malt with the flavor being slightly light for what was anticipated. Thereís some sweet bourbon flavor in there, but not too much like what Iíve found in other bourbon beers.
