COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hidden in the beautiful dark amber color are aromas of vanilla and caramel that compliment perfectly the presence of bourbon. Soft oak flavors transition into a sweet yet slightly dry finish. After aging the ale for four months, the malt and hop complexity of Brrr has melded harmoniously with the bourbon barrels and become a truly one of a kind beer.

2011 Seasonal BARREL AGED BRRRBON is an amazing beer, enjoyed it today at the Foodie Festival in Westport CT. Its one of the more impressive offerings from one of the most impressive craft brewers nationwide. One of the highlights of an event that featured a diverse variety from Widmer, BluePoint, Goose Island, Southern Tier and a host of locals. Widmer Brothers states: FOLLOWING THE INITIAL BREWING PROCESS OF BRRR, THE BEER WAS GIVEN A FRESH CHARGE OF HOPS DURING SECONDARY FERMENTATION AND THEN PUT INTO KENTUCKY BOURBON BARRELS AND AGED FOR FOUR MONTHS. AFTER BARREL AGING, THE BEER WAS ALLOWED A TERTIARY FERMENTATION FOR FINAL CONDITIONING BEFORE RELEASE. 22oz bottle. Nice auburn copper pour. Frothy with sweet smell reminiscent of oak with vanilla. Little bourbon smell mild not overpowering. Texture is slick with taste of sweetness coupled with some alcohol but not negative. Solid hops composition with a little bit of a burnt earthy smell and feel. Finishes spicy like the Falconer IPA but not as hoppy just peppery smoothness. Really enjoy the texture and taste of this beer. There’s essentially no cloying bitterness as its nicely hopped but maintains a 40 IBU and its potent at 9%. It’s not hot like a bourbon but if you don’t like bourbon or whiskey you probably won’t like this but I highly recommend it as one of my favorites from Widmer where I think the SXNW and the Pitch Black and the Falconer IPA are spectacular.

Tallahassee, Fl - New Leaf Market - 22 oz bomber - Fire Sale at $3.99. slightly murky medium orange pour, thinnish off-white head. Aroma has a solid bourbon presence, some date-like fruitiness and a touch of molasses. Flavor follows along the the same profile, nice bourbon accents, brown sugar, molasses. Nice sticky mouthfeel. Not overwrought like some Bourbon BA beers tend to be.

It was a good bourbon barrel. Not the best. The light flavor made it best. Sometimes a bourbon is done just for the hell of it. This had substance. The beer itself was quality. Of course hubby hated it. I thought he might like it since the bourbon was light...I was wrong.

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber, thanks to Mike H. Big aromatic bourbon nose, malty, vanilla, coconut. The bourbon barrel aging gives this beer a nail polish, hot alcohol character.

Poured a dark amber to brown colour with a thin white head. Aroma is of caramel, wood, dark fruits and of course, bourbon. Taste is bready/ caramel malts, bourbon, vanilla, and dark fruits. Medium-full bodied with a present carbonation ending in a heavy warming bitter bourbon finish. Enjoyable cold. Better when warmed up.

This was the ’12. Pours a light golden amber with a thin layer of beige bubbles. The aroma is rich with barrel and wooden notes as well as mild fruity and hop notes. The aroma is rather nice after the beer warms a bit. Light toffee and candy caramel malts with apple and green grape fruit notes. The finish is heavy and warming with light bitterness and lingering barrel esque notes. Nice brew.

2013 on draft at the Pig. Pours a moderate hazy brown-orange with small head. Some mild lace. Aroma is certainly bourbon and oak barrel, dark fruits, malts. bread, sweet roll. The taste was much more muted than expected which was disappointing. Bourbon barrel, bread, malts, leather, vanilla, and light caramel. Lighter body than desired for the style. Low carb.

Pours copper with a finger of light beige head. Aroma is broiled orange and grapefruit, oak, toast, caramel. Taste is bourbon/wood, med-high bitterness, citrus, toast/bready malt. Resinous, tongue-coating bitterness, oily. Nice full carbonation, med-full body. Like a double IPA with oaky bourbon flavors added. I was hoping for something a little darker and more complex.

22oz bottle - Aroma - medium vanillin/bourbon flavors which I hoped would be dominant and it was, but it wasn’t in your face....restrained. Appearance - clear medium amber body, 3" off white head, nice retention. Flavor - sweet caramel and bourbon, medium sweetness. Overall - a very enjoyable, yet pricey, beer that might not be quite deserving of the higher price tag, but the contents of the bottle are very enjoyable.

Ambré avec une mousse blanche. L’arôme du café et bourbon très sucré. Le goût est du malt avec un très peu d’amertume et bourbon dans la finale.

2010 vintage. I had bought this for my brother in law at a package store across from the hospital as my sis was about to have twins. We opened on Xmas Eve a couple weeks later. I had no idea that it was 2010 - ruh roh. Taste was super mellow bourbon, slight oxidation but not detracting. Light fruits, vanilla, little cookie, hint of leather, smooth toffee. Everything was just dialed down and super smooth in this 4 year old ed.
