4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that died down, leaving wispy lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of sweet malts are present in the nose along with notes of licorice and hints of roasted malts.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, although it also has favors of roasted malts. A light amount of bitterness is present. The chocolate flavors become stronger as the beers warm up.
M: It feels full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer doesn't taste as roasty compared to other Russian Imperal Stouts and doesn't deliver as much chocolate flavors as I would have expected.

Nice aroma of bourbon, charcoal, and bitter chocolate. Ebony color with a surprisingly that head that fades slowly, tan in color. Sweet up front. rich bitter chocolate, bourbon, and some oak up front. Nice blend of flavors that goes back and forth between the different notes. Bitterness is bitter chocolate, balances sweetness nicely. Finish is smooth with a nice alcohol burn that warms. Slightly slick mouth feel. Nice!

3.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This bottled brew from a beer festival poured a head of foamy finely sized brown colored bubbles that were very quickly diminishing and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque dark black brown colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was dark malt. The vinous thick mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering mild vinous hop aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of roasted malt mildly vinous dark malt hops and bread dough. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From notes. Enjoyed at Sergio’s World Beer in Louisville, KY on 26 December. Bottle shared by a generous patron at the bar! The pour is a dark dark brown with a nice tan head with a moderate amount of lace. Aroma is heavy on chocolate with a nice malty sweetness. Flavor is good malty chocolatey and a nice bourbon character. Mouth feel is thin and light and the aftertaste is chocolatey and bourbony. There isn’t a whole lot special about this one.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled from the tap at Happy Gnome. Pours black with a yellowish brown head that dissipates to the edges slowly. Aroma combines bitter dark chocolate and bitter dark grains with a good amount of roasted malts. Flavor has bitter dark grains and chocolate with roasted malts and booze underlying.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle shared by Eric S., dude… we killed it last night!! 2013 Vintage. Raven feather black, shiny color. Aroma is chocolate richness to boot! With coffee and rich caramel and sugar.
Very nice surprise how well this held up since bottling. Dry roasted chocolate malts, dark grain, mocha, coffee hints with a nice full body. Creamy texture over the tongue. Much better than my expectations for this brewery and its drinks real well right now.

Bomber. Pours a jet black color with a medium beige head. A nice smoky, sweet chocolate nose. Lovely flavor: big cocoa, dry dark fruit, smoke, big bitter chocolates. Very nice, a bit oily. Great.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle... Pours black with a tiny, flimsy, lightly-tanned head. The nose offers components of mocha and toasted nuts. Full-bodied and lightly creamy with subdued carbonation. The flavor is carbonic, acrid, burnt and bitter. Big-time charcoal. Even at (south Florida in the summertime) room temperature, there is nearly zero sweetness. Scorched, acrid, semi-dry finish.

Big cocoa nibs aroma with roasty coffee as a support. Taste follows suit with a bitter finish. This is not a very complex impy despite the brewery’s deScription - pretty straightforward cocoa, slight coffee, and bitter profile with little else going on. One other thing is I hardly notice the alcohol until the aftertaste when a slight burn hits. One of the lightest impies I’ve had, all things considered. While certainly not bad, it’s best as an introductory example of the style. I could see this going best with a small bit of chocolate cake after a fish meal.
