(Bottle) Pours deep reddish brown with hints of orange. Sand coloured head. The aroma holds resinous hops and dry caramel up front with undertones of herbs, spices, flowers, bread, nuts, woodsy citrus and raisins. The flavour is light to medium sweet, light to medium bitter and tiny acidic with notes of caramel, nuts, bread, resin, wood, flowers, grass, herbs, spices and some fruits. The mouthfeel is clean and soft with a light to medium carbonation. Light fiery, balanced hoppy and malty finish. Medium bodied.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Limited Release #4. Spring 2011. Bottle dated Mar14, 2011.
Poured from 22 oz bottle after aging for a little more than a year.
Fairly clear, orangish dark Brown with 1 finger tan head and good lacing. Both lacing and head disappear as the beer warms.
Aroma of thick caramelized malts, brown sugar, prunes, overripe strawberries, earth, pine and light grapefruit.
Taste is hoppier with a bitter pine resin and softer citric flavors competing with the strong malt flavors of caramel and brown sugar along with dried fruits, dates, vanilla, oak, earthy and buttery flavors. Aftertaste is rather bitter. Sweetness comes out more as the beer warms. Call Although it's taste is not outstanding taste, I'm really enjoying this balanced barley wine as it warms.
Full body and above-average carbonation work well together to provide a nice mouthfeel.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Appearance Amber, clean, creamy lacing
Aroma - Cherries, banana, yeast
Taste - Bitter, dry, toffee, citrus, hops
This barley wine reminded me of a double IPA. Nice and hoppy with malty, rich fruity tones. The finish was bitter and warm - not too complex but just enough to hit the spot.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Dark amber, thick tan head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of flowers > grass > pine. Taste has chocolate and coffee notes on top of the usual caramel. Very creative for a barleywine.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bottle, served at cellar temp in a tulip. Pours clear copper-brown with a little bit of tan head, faint lacing. Smells strong - caramel, toffee, resinous hop and pine with a detectable odor of alcohol. Taste is sweet and malty, with notes of caramel, almost-but-not-quite-balanced by burst of grassy, pine hop bitterness at the end. Full-bodied mouthfeel. If only the hops were better balanced - another year in the cellar might help with the balance. However, if it were hopped a little more, it might make for a good IIPA.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a three finger cream head that fades slowly to a thin layer leaving a good lace. Clear amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is grapefruit hops and flavor is grapefruit hops and caramel. Not bad but tart for a barleywine. $10.00 for a 22oz bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me.
