Bottle:   Deep muddy burnt caramel, moderate sandy head, frothy, with nice lacing.   Molasses and burnt brown sugar nose.   Also a touch of dark pitted fruit and cotton candy, well burnt cotton candy.   On the tongue I am getting a little bit of an astringent soy like flavor, almost like the dark pitted fruit is too heavy and way too bready. &nbps Reminds me of a seriously over done Doppelbock.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Heavy brown sugar flavors, molasses, slightly burnt.   Its almost too much.   Needs some hop bitterness to balance out the heavy maltiness.   Too sugary sweet overall.   Slight rum flavors on the finish.   Needs something... maybe some more hops to balance it out.   Could stand to be less sweet, but more velvety.   Tiz okay, but a little rough around the edges.

22oz bottle. Dull brown pour with a ring of tan head. Nose is lacking overall - some rum spice, wood, molasses, and caramel. Some sweetness - vanilla and brown sugar.

Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours pretty dark brown with a 1/4 inch beige head. Lots of rum and treacle in the aroma. Full bodied. Flavor is massively treacle with rum and some citrus and arguably pear. It burns slightly. I’m thinking this massively flavorful ale will age well. Brilliant concoction.

Nephilium (1263) - Ohio, USA - JUL 22, 2012
(Labeled as Limited Edition Number 6) This beer starts off with a sweet aroma, with hints of rum and molasses. It pours a clear reddish amber, with a quickly fading light tan head. This is a very sweet beer, with the balancing notes being of rum and oak. There’s a long lingering finish, where a touch of vanilla comes through. The price is a bit high on this one ($16 a bottle), I do feel that it is something worth trying though.

Bottle. Comes in a nice fancy brown box...must be good! Pours a slightly cloudy brown reddish color with a slight light tan head. Aroma is molasses, rum, and booze. Medium mouthfeel. Molasses, metallic, rum, and some vanilla. The rum really stands out on this one. Overall, it’s really not that enjoyable, just a little too much on the rum. Warms the throat on the way down. Minimal head retention.

marcus (6022) - Sacramento, California, USA - JUL 18, 2012
Bottle from Total Wine, Sacramento. Pours dark brown with an attractive beige head and a brown sugar aroma. There is a treacle and brown sugar flavor with a rum-like finish. It starts sweet, then turns bitter and slightly harsh. Interesting, but hard to drink a lot of this.

hopscotch (8552) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUL 17, 2012
Bottle… Clear brown ale with flashes of burnt orange and a small, creamy, white head. The nose offers a strange marriage of fruitcake, toffee, cotton candy and crusted port. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and jazzy carbonation. The flavor is sweet and port-like with a caramel component and some harsh, boozy notes. Finishes alcoholic and sweet. Strange for a brown ale. Quite interesting for a beer.

Beerenberger (1276) - Fischer, Texas, USA - JUL 15, 2012
Pours a very dark brown with a short lived tan head. No lacing was noted. The aroma was malt, caramel and maybe a hint of a floral fragrance. The taste is roasted malt with a nice bitter aftertaste. The mouthfeel was medium to full. This was an enjoyable brown ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bottle. Poured a deep amber, almost brown color with an off white head. Aromas of caramel, molasses, earth, some roast, and some chocolate. Tastes of molasses, earth, rum, caramel, root beer, and wood.
