2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
650 ml. bottle. Served at cellar temp. Pours a thin, fizzy, short lived ivory head over a clear reddish brown (SRM 20) body.......nose is molasses, plum, raisin, toffee/caramel, alcohol, hints of cocoa.....taste is sweet, with light plum, raisin, vanilla, rum, terpene....mouth feel light, alcohol burn present, carbonation low. This is very unbalanced, with the rum barrels and the alcohol dominating the other ingredients leading to minimal complexity in both aroma and flavor, finishing with a harsh alcohol burn. 3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Location: 12 oz bottle from Shop Rite, 9/7/12
Aroma: The nose is chocolate and caramel malts, roast, some light smoke, and a little booze
Appearance: It pours a cloudy dark orange-brown color, with a beige head
Flavor: The taste is meidum sweet, malty, semi-sweet chocolate, and a mildly bitter finish
Palate: The body is medium-full, has a little bit of heat, and a soft-to-average carbonation
I enjoyed this one, and thought it was a nice attempt from Widmer. I agree with whomever categorized it as an American Strong, as it didn’t really feel like a classic Brown.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: Pours a dark iced tea brown with a swirly white film a top.
Aroma: Fruity floral tea, sugar, bubble gum.
Taste: Cola, brown sugar, licorice. Mild hop bitterness. No nuttiness or traditional brown ale notes. Didn’t find anything particularly boozy about the taste.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied fizzy.
Overall: Well above average, and exceeded my expectations for a Brown Ale. Widmer along with Karl Strauss try not to go too extreme with their barrel aging, but I would like them to take a chance and make something with some more barrel character, meaning keep the juice in the barrels longer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
YOU NEED TO LET THIS BEER WARM UP SOME! 22oz bottle. This beer pours like a brown should. Not much head. When cold, it smells of rum, way more than it tastes of it. When it warms up, the rum blends nicely with the Brown Ale aroma. Looks like any other Brown Ale, with less carbonation. The taste starts out a mellow rum flavor that unfolds into the brown flavor. Finishes a little dry, prolly the alcohol doing that. The palate is starts out dry and fizzy. The aftertaste is very rummy.
Overall, this beer is much different cold than warm. I didn’t really find it that good before it warmed up some. I am going to try and find another bottle of this to age, but remember...LET IT WARM UP for the best flavor and aroma.
