22oz bottle in an English pint. Pours brown with a fluffy, cream-colored head. Aroma of caramel and a little chocolate from the malts, rum, molasses, and floral hops. Flavor a nice blend of everything. Average texture. A pretty good beer.

I smell chocolate and a hint of something sweet. Smells pretty light bodied. A hazy brown color with little offwhite head. Very sweet medium bodied good carbonation. I feel e alcohol and i get a little sweetness from the licorice i think. Im not impressed with this ale but its not a horrible. Its a bit sweet for me for a brown but worth a try

You can really taste the molasses and rum on the finish despite the front being a smooth brown ale flavor. Good beer but not amazing

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
A thin deep reddish amber colored beer. The head is an off white ring. The aroma... all mediciny. The flavor all licorice or "anise" for you herbal snobs. Fail as usual. Stick to summit hops and the pre-AB in bev recipes except for the horrible "hefeweizen".

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured into a perfect pint. I love brown ales and rum barrel aged beers, so I had to buy this. I was a little disappointed to see the mediocre scores on this, but hopefully everyone is wrong.
3.0 A: Not very brown for a brown ale. Clear, dark orange amber color. Two fingers of frothy tan head. Retention is average for the ABV, I suppose and clouds of lacing are left sporadically.
3.5 S: Loads of dry toasty maltiness and nuttiness. Molasses and burnt sugar underneath. Earthy rum notes with oak and vanilla, but no booziness. Itís not bad, but it desperately needs some more power.
3.5 T: Again lots of toastiness and nuttiness followed by molasses and burnt sugar. The rum is more aggressive in the taste and itís appreciated. It gives notes of earth, caramel, toffee, and toast. Oak and light vanilla. Soft citrusy fruitiness. The booze is well hidden again. The taste is better than the nose, but not enough to bump up the score.
3.0 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation, but lacking creaminess. Could also use some more body. I was expecting a rich mouthfeel on this beer and I didnít get one.
3.5 D: Itís decent all around, but it just leaves me wanting more. I wanted bolder flavors with more depth and more viscosity. Worth a try, but not a second buy.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A - Pours a cloudy brownish-red with a finger of frothy off-white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some lacing.
S - Aroma is a mix of sweet caramel malts, toasted coconut, brown and residual sugars, oak, vanilla, molasses, with a touch of dark fruit and booze.
T - Starts off with a mix of rich sweet caramel malts, brown sugar, toasted coconut, and vanilla. Through the middle, some oak and rum comes through with some more residual sugars, molasses, and a hint of dark fruit. The finish is a mix of sweet caramelized malts, brown sugar, toasted coconut, oak, vanilla, rum, and a bit of booze.
M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a sweet and warming finish.
D - Very drinkable. Nice imperial brown ale with some great balance and complexity from the rum barrel aging.
