Draft at Grumpy’s downtown. Pretty faint aroma. Need to breathe in deeply to get anything. Dark, hazy amber with yellowish light tan head. Nice lace. Initial mouthfeel is hot. But it quickly mellows into a caramelly sweet flavor brought on by the oak and palm sugar. A really nice brew.

Bottle was a gusher. Pours a hazy brown with fluffy tan head that leaves light lace. Aroma of sweet molasses, caramel, toffee, toasted barley, and a hint of booze. Taste follows, but no real booze burn at all. Nice, nothing awesome, but solid.

Pours a chestnut brown color with a minimal creamy tan head. Aroma of molasses, dark fruit, and rum. Molasses flavor with toffee, dark fruit, and hint of alcohol and touch of hop bitterness. Bit of alcohol warmth as well. Nice beer.

Loved this. Pours a murky orange with off white bread. Aromas are strong caramel and brown sugar. Flavors are very malty and sugary. I get some rum too. This is nice.

Tap @ Widmer Gasthaus... Poured dark brown with hints of red and a bubbly, white head. Nice lacing. Initially served too cold and offered a slight metallic flavor. This faded as it warmed. Overall quite worty with big malt grains and sweetness. Bitter-sweet molasses, brown sugar, oak, and hints of rum. Not over ally apparent that it was barrel aged.

The pour is a translucent, deep mahogany color with a fairly small, beige, pillowy head which is somewhat lasting and leaves minimal lace. The nose is fairly bland for the strength of the beer; molasses, brown sugar, light smoky notes, faint metallic, faint anise toasted caramel, and some roast in there. The flavor is nice with rich caramel, molasses, faint rum barrels, brown sugar, some spicy notes, still some light smoke and roast. The palate is nearly full, less than lively, warming, chewy, and slightly syrupy. The finish is still rich with molasses, more roasty tones, slight anise, and a slight barrel note emerging. Not a bad strong brown ale but the additions seemed to be fairly minimal. The descriptions from the bottle did not really come through which leads me to believe that this one may benefit from some age. However, it is probably not worth it to pay the $13 for another to find out.

Even opaque brown with a thin white head. Aroma and taste are nutty roasted sugars, and taste is the same with slight tannic bitterness. $5/10 ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
