Sampled on 12/3/2011. This wheat beer pours a medium orange gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with decent lacing. The aroma is cereal, Muscat grapes, fruit and sweet. A light to medium bodied wheat beer. The malts are fruity and sweet, with lots of Muscat grape flavor, there is a hint of lemongrass at the finish. The hops are herbal and earthy. Light carbonation. Interesting blend of flavors. I like the way the Muscat grapes mix and blend with the wheat/malts and the lemongrass. A touch of grape tannins at the finish. Overall it a touch sweet but it works. Hides the 9% alcohol well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Pours deep gold into a tulip. Off-white head with little retention recedes to hug rim and pool surface. Sweet white grape juice and lemon aromas. Thin with sweet wheat and grapes upfront turning to lemon in the lasting dusty finish.

Sampled at Cajun Cafe’s 2011 Fall Beer Festival. Pours a mostly clear yellow-orange with a white head. Nose is lemony on the surface with some light grape notes under it and some sweet malt behind. Flavor is lemony at first followed by some mild sweetness and the light wheat behind. Interesting, the body is a bit thick for a wheat ale, but then it is a 9% wheat ale on top of that.

Appearance: Near clear, deep golden body with a white head that deteriorates in a flash. Poof. Gone.

Smell: Decidedly sweet-scented, smelling of heady malted wheat, syrup, jellies, honeybear honey, and booze with little lemongrass showing.

Taste: Heavily sweet, quite sugary from the first sip on. Sugar, sticky honey, muscat jelly. No real hop character or bitterness to begin tempering this mess. Vein of acidity running through the middle. Again, not much lemongrass, mostly just raw sweetness. Faint, faint and a noticeable booziness on the thick, that-ain’t-exactly-luscious, toothsome finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: I was geared up for a sweet, heavy beer, but, ugh, this was just clunky, clumsy, and cloying. A sack of sugar would’ve been cheaper.

The aroma is malty and slightly funky with a fruity/honey wine quality as well as an herbal citrus quality. The appearance is light hazy gold - orange with a small head. The taste is like the aroma with lots of alcohol. The palate is medium. Overall it’s interesting but not great.

22oz bottle in a lager glass. Pours light amber with a small head. Aroma of grapes, light lemongrass, light wheat, and light hops and malts. Flavor the same, with the grapes dominating. Average texture. A weird beer.

Backlog bottle thanks to so many good ratebeerians. The look is clear, no head, and golden in color. The taste is wheat, lemons, and fruits. The taste is about the same with some tartness.

Babyfood pear aroma with hints of cayenne pepper. My son called it a really weird Texas Pete smell. Clear amber, headless. Whole overripe orange flavor with hints of sage. Lemongrass appears toward the end. Ends with a peppery bite, again like hot sauce. Full bodied, a bit too sweet. I’m trying not to show a bias against Widmer and imagined this being another one of Dogfish Head’s "off-centered ales", but I didn’t find much enjoyment in it.
