Svart med lavt lys brunt skum. Lakris, kaffe, kakao og mørke bær. Tydelig bringebær i smak, sammen med salt lakris og noe bitter mørk sjokoladesmak. Fyldig, litt oljete, lite kullsyre

Transfer from BA review on 4-22-13-
Served on tap in a snifter
Appearance- Pours a nearly pitch black color with a one finger tan colored head. The head fades over about a one minute time frame to leave a fantastic level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell- The aroma is heavy of a roasted malt smell with some stronger smells of chocolate and coffee as well as a nice bit of a caramel sweetness. Mixed with these smells are some lighter aromas of raspberry as the name would suggest giving a sweeter chocolate and raspberry flavored coffee smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a big roasted malt flavor with a decent chocolate and coffee flavor up front. It begins slightly sweeter with some almost milky and caramel flavors. As the flavor advances the chocolate gets stronger while the coffee remains relatively constant. During this time a vanilla and raspberry flavor come to the tongue. The raspberry gets stronger to the end of the taste, but never makes the brew too sweet as toward the end the milky, chocolate and caramel flavors dwindle a bit and the coffee flavors get even stronger. These drier and roastier coffee and raspberry flavors mix with a little bit of a boozy flavor to leave a warming dark flavor on the tongue.
Mouthfeel- The mouthfeel is on the average to slightly lower side for a stout of nearly 10% abv with a carbonation level that is a bit on the higher side. More creaminess and less carbonation would likely have suited the drier fruit and roasted cocoa and coffee flavors a bit better, but overall not bad.
Overall – A pretty nice imperial with a moderate and not to overpowering raspberry flavor. A nice one to give a try if you are looking for a brew to just sit back and sip slowly.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate and raspberry. Taste was dark chocolate, some bitter coffee, and light raspberry. Full bodied and creamy. I liked that the raspberry wasn’t over-powering. Not a bad beer at all.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours to enormous pillowy head with decent retention and somewhat uneven splotches and splatters of lacing. Aroma is plenty of raspberry with chocolate and bread in the background. Also some jalapeno. I never believed people who said Founders Breakfast Stout smelled like jalapeno, but now I have firsthand account of an impy that does, so I no longer think those raters are nuts! Moving on, the flavor is raspberry first with bitter chocolate and coffee in the finish. Alcohol exceptionally well-hidden, not at all noticeable until well after the finish when the warmth finally hits. To my surprise, the raspberry flavors linger onward, not being dominated by bitterness. Feels almost slightly light for an impy. Still, a nice beer. Fits pretty well within the Russian impy framework overall. Nuances keep revealing themselves the more I sip. This turned out more interesting than I anticipated, though I wouldn’t stack it up against the best of imps. Has its place, however.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Vintage 2012.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2013 wax dipped bottle. limited edition no. 8. Black body with a thick brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, raspberries, and floral hops. Taste has a dark chocolate type of sweetness with the bitter hop bite on the end. Definitely taste the raspberries but it’s not overpowering. Bitter chocolate hop bite stays on the tongue after swallowed but not in an offensive way. Creamy mouth feel. Easy to drink for a full bodied beer. Enjoyable. Prost!
