COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An extremely rich and complex beer. The addition of raspberries during the fermentation process results in an almost purplish opaque color with a beautiful brown head. Warm chocolate and roasty notes compliment the hop bitterness.

High alcohol burn, hoppy, sweet. Touch of raspberry which aroma wise gets obliterated by the strong hops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

"Not really a surprise, but as good as I was hoping it was. One of my favorite brews from Widmer. Kinda steep on the price, but worth it once or twice. This is what Lost Coast Raspberry Brown (a gateway beer) would taste like if you replace "brown" with "imperial stout". The raspberry aroma and flavor are at the same level, pleasantly obvious, but more on the back end and not taking away from the beer at all. Adding to it if anything. Nice bitter chocolate and slightly hoppy stout. Very flavorful and aromatic. "

From notes. Tasted on 6/30/12 at the 1st Annual Chimipalooza, from bottle. Pours nearly opaque dark auburn with an average tan head that leaves a nice collar of lace. The nose is all dark chocolate and darkly roasted coffee. The flavor is very dry dark chocolate and coffee with an added fresh raspberry note. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long bitter coffee and raspberry finish.

Tap at JL Beers in Fargo. Very dark pour with a clingy light beige head. Heavy roasty, chocolate cake batter is quite a good description, and I get just a hint of tart/sweet that I wouldn’t necessarily pick out as raspberry. Very good nonetheless.

Chocolate cake batter, sweet creosote aroma with faint fishy notes. ’13 vintage. Good bomber, good label, oily coffee pour, darkish khaki head. Lots of bittersweet chocolate, cookie dough, boozy. I don’t get raspberry in this. Coffee roast. Medium heavy body. Mouthy. Roasty cocoa powder finish. Warming. Sturdy, not spectacular. New Leaf Market.

Fyldig, litt oljete, lite kullsyre

Transfer from BA review on 4-22-13- Served on tap in a snifter Appearance- Pours a nearly pitch black color with a one finger tan colored head. The head fades over about a one minute time frame to leave a fantastic level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell- The aroma is heavy of a roasted malt smell with some stronger smells of chocolate and coffee as well as a nice bit of a caramel sweetness. Mixed with these smells are some lighter aromas of raspberry as the name would suggest giving a sweeter chocolate and raspberry flavored coffee smell. Taste – The taste begins with a big roasted malt flavor with a decent chocolate and coffee flavor up front. It begins slightly sweeter with some almost milky and caramel flavors. As the flavor advances the chocolate gets stronger while the coffee remains relatively constant. During this time a vanilla and raspberry flavor come to the tongue. The raspberry gets stronger to the end of the taste, but never makes the brew too sweet as toward the end the milky, chocolate and caramel flavors dwindle a bit and the coffee flavors get even stronger. These drier and roastier coffee and raspberry flavors mix with a little bit of a boozy flavor to leave a warming dark flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel- The mouthfeel is on the average to slightly lower side for a stout of nearly 10% abv with a carbonation level that is a bit on the higher side. More creaminess and less carbonation would likely have suited the drier fruit and roasted cocoa and coffee flavors a bit better, but overall not bad. Overall – A pretty nice imperial with a moderate and not to overpowering raspberry flavor. A nice one to give a try if you are looking for a brew to just sit back and sip slowly.

Pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate and raspberry. Taste was dark chocolate, some bitter coffee, and light raspberry. Full bodied and creamy. I liked that the raspberry wasn’t over-powering. Not a bad beer at all.
