4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Appearance: Dark brown with thin white head
Aroma: Malty with caramel and dark chocolate
Taste: Rich and malty like a double bock. The body is a bit flat. Nice cinnamon spice on the finish.
Overall: The cocoa nibs are definitely pronounced and add a malty flavor. A great combination profile on paper but I’m not picking up any of the pecans or green chilis. . I understand they didn’t want to overdo it on those two but it they could have kicked it up a notch.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Pours murky amber with almost no head. Aroma is sweet malts, herby for sure. Flavor has very light faded chiles behind an over malty profile. Unfortunately the chocolate didn’t seem to blend well with the base style.

500 or 600 ml bottle shared with czar, thanks mate. Pours a dark, yet clear-looking ruby reddish dark brown with a nice beige head. Aroma is malt, hazelnut, coconut, chocolate. Flavor is chocolate, coconut, hazelnut, malt, cereals, cinnamon. Finish is hot pepper (burns in throat), chocolate. Sticks to the palate. Lingering peppers and chocolate. Medium body, sticky mouthfeel, weak carbonation. Excellent ale, very complex and flavorful. Unique.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
pours clear dark brown, red tint, with a low light beige head, little retention. hazelnuts and pecans, toasted ones, some caramel and tobacco, very nutty, chiles, shy chocolate notes - more in the malt bill, roasted vegetables. very hint of acidity. hint of sweetness. soft carbonation, light body - almost feels watery, lightly boozy, earthy and peppery-chili finish. good dosage of spice/nuts and all. it is a relatively complex brew but mainly due to its components - malt bill is rather poor but still somewhat supportive. o-k.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bottle in a snifter. Pours very dark brown with a lacy, light tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, some spices, peppers, and light bitterness. Flavor about the same. Average to smooth texture. An interesting beer that is better than a lot of spiced/pepper beers.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours deep brown/ruby with very little head. Aroma has cocoa and light vegetal notes. Flavor amps up the cocoa...almost dark chocolate...mild vegetal pepper notes. Mouthfeel is light/medium and the finish is roasty dark chocolate with a nice peppery burn.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin tan head that fades very quickly and a very nice violet and ruby tint. Aroma of chocolate, more chocolate and bunches of earth, peat and roasted malt. Full-bodied; Strong chocolate flavour with a lot of malt, definite chile flavour and heat, some light coffee and spices and a hint of burnt nuts. Aftertaste is quite complex with the spices touching a little bit, but the taste is mainly around the chocolate, malt and chile mixed with a great big body and bunches of alcohol. Overall, a nice beer that holds true to the writing on the front and a pleasant tasting - not my favourite beer and one that I couldn’t drink all the time, but a nice beer. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington, DC (Logan Circle / P St NW) on 06-October-2012 for US$12.99 sampled at home in Washington on 25-March-2013.

Aroma is spectacular with cocoa, pecans, raisins and dates. Taste does not live up to the aroma with subdued colors of caramel, honey, pecans and cocoa.
