2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
I did not like this beer at all. The chile’s and cinnamon don’t mix well with the malt and it’s left with a dry palate that just doesn’t come together. Like someone put crappy hot sauce in my dark belgian ale. Gross.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Fermentation. Pours a transparent deep brown with a small tan head. Nose is dominated by cocoa nibs with roasted malts, pecans with muted spices. Flavor is lots of sweet chocolate, vanilla, roasted nuts and more present spices. Quick sweet finish. Pretty tasty.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
10/3/12. On tap at Kickback’s. Dark brown pour, almost black, with a small tan head. Chocolate and coffee on the aroma with plenty of nuttiness and a touch of peppers as well. Rich chocolate flavor with touches of coffee, plenty of pepper, and hints of vanilla and cinnamon. Interesting and tasty, but it’s no Hunahpu’s.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bomber. Pours dark dark brown with reddish tints and a medium collapsing beige head that leaves a ring of foam around the edge. Aroma consists of doughy bread, chocolate milk, chilies, cinnamon. Taste is lightly sweet and finishes with a slight spicy burn. The pecans, chilies, and chocolate nibs all come through fairly strong. Mouthfeel is creamy and the carbonation is softer than expected. Nice and experimental, the way I like them (some).

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A deep rich brown. Rich chocolate on the nose with a twinkle of spice kinda like a mole, but with a light, dry nutty pecan note that pairs very well. So slick, perfectly balanced sweetness and a delightful airy pecan pie finish that lasts for ages.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: SEP 23, 2012 Draft at Proof. Pours a murky reddish-brown on tap with thin tan head and good lacing. Aroma and taste are intetesting, spicy, roasty, malty, sweetness, bitter. All kinds of intetesting, with a bit of an alcoholic bite. Good stuff.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: SEP 22, 2012 Draft at Moriartys. Very, very dark red brown with a slim silky head that disappeared almost entirely. Big chocolate cinnamon bomb. Dark malt flavors, though no particular fruit notes. Warms to some chewy caramel. Nutella. Tootsie Roll. Spicy bite lingers. Nice.

Wow--this is exciting beer. The chocolate dimension is especially strong, even more so when you look at this beer (it isn’t opaque) and wonder how they got so much chocolate into a beer that doesn’t look like an imperial stout. The chili is subtle--no burn, reasonably handled. Fun and good. (bottle at Ale Jail beer festival, September 2012)
