COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our brewers added fresh whole vanilla beans to a few select barrels of our Barrel-Aged Brrrbon ’13, an imperial version of our Brrr Seasonal Ale aged in Kentucky Bourbon barrels, for this limited edition brew. The addition of vanilla beans heightens the vanilla character imparted by the barrels, and adds a delicious layer of complexity to the beer’s oak and caramel character, making for a smooth warmer perfect for the season.

MALTS: Pale, Caramel, Carapils, Dark Chocolate
HOPS: Alchemy, Simcoe, Cascade

On tap at Capone’s. Poured a muddy/murky amberish-brown color with a small sized off white head. Bourbon, woody, vanilla, and some dark fruits. More bourbon than vanilla, although the vanilla was there.

650ml bottle into a shaker glass; served cool. Aroma: Cascade hops definitely stand out. A little bit fruity; jelly. Boozy heat. Appearance: Hazy, deep caramel body, with an exceptionally thin, white head. Not a lot of lacing. Taste: Caramel and toffee, moderate+ booze, just barely any vanilla. Palate: Medium+ body, slightly slick. Moderate carbonation, between soft and prickly. Finish is medium+ and finishes on booze and chocolate. Overall: Not a whole lot of vanilla. Not even a mild amount of vanilla. You have to search for the vanilla, which is kind of frustrating. Tasty stuff though!

Rusty red with a thin brown head. Aroma is all bourbon and vanilla, and taste is similarly heavy, and boozy. It’s kind of one-note, and could stand to be a bit smoother, with less biting tannin in the finish, but it’s still good. $11/22 first PDX NYE

Pours murky amber with a small beige head. The aroma has bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar, caramel and rich toasted malt. It has a medium / full body with fairly sharp carbonation. The flavor begins with brown sugar, booze, dark caramel, bourbon and some vanilla. The finish is harsh with bourbon, booziness, abv heat and some vanilla. Decent beer, but too warm for my tastes.

Shared at GregFest 2013 from a cool-looking, wax-dipped, big brown bomber into a nonic half pint glass, thanks Carter! It poured a hazy copper colour with persistent beige foam and some Belgian lace. More vanilla and bourbon barrel characteristics in the aroma than flavour. Medium-heavy body, average carbonation, mouthfeel a little slick, some lasting residual sweetness. Not sure what the base style is supposed to be here, but it’s a fairly well-balanced strong amber ale overall.

Bourbon. Hints of vanilla. Woody and Oak. Not as hot as I’d expect for the alcohol content. Thanks carter.

Bottle:   Deep reddish caramel, frothy tannish head, fairly nice lacing.   Soft caramel and bourbon notes.   Faint vanilla up front.   Husky maltiness up front, slight bourbon, a little astringent, with subtle notes of vanilla.   Not as smooth as I would have hoped for.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Feels green still, a bit hot, warming @ 10.7%.   Yeah, still green.   Soft bourbon, vanilla, with a touch of caramel, and rich breadiness.   Still, not as thick as I would have thought.   Green hops, pale bourbon, soft caramel, with a little breadiness on the finish.   Good, but green and a little rough.   Hopefully one of these years they figure out how to improve this beer...

On draught at Bailey’s Taproom. Clear brownish amber color. Aroma is citrus hops and bourbon. Taste is fresh vanilla bean, citrus and tropical hops, bourbon, and caramel. Hoppy and sweet are pretty balanced.

Tap at Valhalla.. Pour is a clear dark amber with a nice white fluffy head.. Not what I was expecting. Aroma is bourbon, oak, cherries. Taste is incredible.. very nice bourbon upfront with a smooth lingering vanilla bean finish. Some dark fruit and some sweetness. Soft light mouthfeel.. crisp. ABV is well hidden. Beautiful beer. Was very impressed with this one

Holiday Ale Festival 2012 - Dark amber in color, clear with a thin head. Nice vanilla flavoring added to the Brrrrrbon. This was a tasty beer.
