COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our brewers added fresh whole vanilla beans to a few select barrels of our Barrel-Aged Brrrbon í13, an imperial version of our Brrr Seasonal Ale aged in Kentucky Bourbon barrels, for this limited edition brew. The addition of vanilla beans heightens the vanilla character imparted by the barrels, and adds a delicious layer of complexity to the beerís oak and caramel character, making for a smooth warmer perfect for the season.

MALTS: Pale, Caramel, Carapils, Dark Chocolate
HOPS: Alchemy, Simcoe, Cascade

Waxed bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours translucent dark copper with a slight beige head. Aroma is vanilla, bourbon and heavy malt. Med + body. Flavor is a little alcohol, vanilla, roasty malt, bourbon, astringent wood. Strong and flavorful stuff. Finishes pretty much toward woody and dry. It is just a little "rough".

Bomber ONLY from Whole Foods Plymouth Meeting circa 4Q 2013 and roughly $10.00. Pours hazy dark brown with balanced vanilla, roast dark malts, cacao, and a balanced finish. This was better than the ginger, and a beer I wish I had more of.

Taster at Jungle Jimís Barrel-Aged Beer Bash 2015. Mildly hazy orange amber color. Thin off-white kind of bubbly head, few bits of lace. Bigger citrusy hop up front in the nose, thatís kind of surprising. West-coast DIPA level of citrusy hop, kind of piney and spicy, wasnít expecting that at all. Just a touch of vanilla on the backend, more noticeable as it warms. Bigger bitterness, mild to moderate sweet taste, kind of dry. Bigger body. Kind of soft tingly sort of crisp lighter carbonation, light slick mouthfeel but drying in the finish. Interesting stuff. Surprisingly hoppy, especially for a 2013 vintage (indicated). Reminds me of some baíd DIPAs Iíve tried. Would have probably gotten better if I gave it time to warm.

"Iím not sure the vanilla imparted by the barrels NEEDED to be heightened. Kinda like the vanilla BCS in my mind. Not bad, just not neccesary. Tasty, but if anything takes away a tad of complexity from the non-vanilla version(s)."

Bottle:   Deep reddish caramel, frothy tannish head, fairly nice lacing.   Soft caramel and bourbon notes.   Faint vanilla up front.   Husky maltiness up front, slight bourbon, a little astringent, with subtle notes of vanilla.   Not as smooth as I would have hoped for.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Feels green still, a bit hot, warming @ 10.7%.   Yeah, still green.   Soft bourbon, vanilla, with a touch of caramel, and rich breadiness.   Still, not as thick as I would have thought.   Green hops, pale bourbon, soft caramel, with a little breadiness on the finish.   Good, but green and a little rough.   Hopefully one of these years they figure out how to improve this beer...
