COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Glen Falconer was passionate about friends, familly, and great IPAs. So in tribute, we’ve created an IPA worth of this master brewer. Made with Falconer’s Flight hops from Hopunion, LLC, a blend named for Glen himself. The result is a bright, moderately bitter IPA with stonefruit aromas and a strong malt backbone. We think Glen would approved. Proceeds from the sale of Falconer’s Flight hops go to the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation, providing scholarships to professional and aspiring brewers. In addition, Widmer Brothers Brewing is making a donation to grant two additional scholarships. Learn more at www.glenfalconerfoundation.org. Prost! To true hop heads.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a moderate frothy white head. Nose is floral and hoppy. Taste has that bitterness to it, but tastes very clean and smooth. I like this as an IPA.

Amber in color with a decent sized off-white head. Aroma is of citrus, very floral and light pine. Taste is of caramel, citrus, floral and resin.

This beer was surprisingly solid. Ruddy amber colored beer with an off-white head. Aromas of toffee, and some herbal notes. Tastes of earthy hops, some pine, toffee/caramel sweetness, and ends on a bitter note. Nicely balanced with a malty backbone, refreshing. A bittersweet, pleasant beer.

12-oz. bottle into a pint glass at my house on Nov. 20, 2012 (purchased at Vons in Grantville (San Diego) for $13.99 (with card price) as part of a 12-pack on Nov. 20, 2012). Auburn caramel with three-to-four fingers of frothy white head that took a long while to dissipate. Good, wet and foamy retention on the sides all the way down (all the way!), nice layer on the top. Smelled a sharp whiff of a kind of complex mixture of caramel malts and bitter citrus hops. The citrus hops seemed to be tangerine and orange mixed with grapefruit. Had that caramel malt backbone with toffee. Also some sweet floral hops as well. Tasted similar to the nose. Got that mixture of malts (caramel, toffee, amberish) and bitter hops (tangerine and grapefruit). Not as much floral hops as the smell, but still there. Very bitter finish. LATE ADD: Seemed to get some butter in there as well. Light-to-medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, bitter finish. I was hoping for more, but the Falconer IPA didn’t do it, which is rare for me with Widmer.

On tap at Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. Poured clear medium orange with an off-white head. The aroma picked up light earth and pine over a generic pale malt base.. not a lot of character to it. The flavor found bitter pine and prickly carbonation upfront with weak pale malts at the core.. spicier toward the back.. just OK. Bitter and a bit sharp on the palate.. light-medium bodied.. scratchy carbonation.. drinkable, but not great.

Draft at Momo’s. Amber pour with a light tab head. Nice fruity pineapple, orange and grapefruit aroma with some underlying sweet malts. Smooth, slightly creamy palate with more tropical fruity hops and moderate malt with a decent bitter finish. Pretty good, but a bit restrained.

Bottle. The look is clear, lacing off white head, the color is amber. The smell is pine, caramel, ruby red grapefruit, and good. The taste is crisp, easy going, bitterness, and ok.

Pours a clear copper color on tap with thin, off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of citrus, hops, and sweet pale malts, but all kind of faint until it warms up. Taste is more bitter than sweet, but citrus is still there. Decent, but nothing special.

12oz bottle from a sixer that cost me $8.49. Dark orange color, not much head but some sticky lacing on the glass. Smells like alcohol and fruit but not exactly citrus. The taste is alcohol, some fruit (again not citrus), more alcohol. Overall this has too much of an alcohol flavor for me, I preferred the X-114 a lot more. Draft at Moriartys. Clear copper pour with a big foamy head. Not much aroma but a lot of flavor. Medium high hops balanced with some dark sugar rum. Full flavor. Good solid IPA but might seem weak compared to all the new wet hop/double/imperial IPAs out there.
