COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Glen Falconer was passionate about friends, familly, and great IPAs. So in tribute, we’ve created an IPA worth of this master brewer. Made with Falconer’s Flight hops from Hopunion, LLC, a blend named for Glen himself. The result is a bright, moderately bitter IPA with stonefruit aromas and a strong malt backbone. We think Glen would approved. Proceeds from the sale of Falconer’s Flight hops go to the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation, providing scholarships to professional and aspiring brewers. In addition, Widmer Brothers Brewing is making a donation to grant two additional scholarships. Learn more at www.glenfalconerfoundation.org. Prost! To true hop heads.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a copper color with a nice two inch light tan head that lasts. Taste is of grapefruit, pine, hops, resin, malt and caramel. Similar aroma. Has a nice wet body. The finish is dry, bitter and lingers. Well balanced and easy to drink for having 7% alcohol.

12 oz bottle - Orange with a small white head. Some fruity aromas. A bit sharp to the tongue. Like a thousand needles, but not in a bad way. Nice, hoppy IPA.

Bottle to snifter. Pours clear amber with a foamy tight off white head that slowly fades to film and sticky lacing. Aroma is earthy bitter hops mixed with a malty carmel. Taste is bitter grapefruit and soil with a light caramel background. Palate is medium feel with a gritty bitter dry finish. Not a bad brew, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Pours a deep reddish orange color with a well retained head that leaves some lacing on the glass.

The aroma is all together a tad on the faint side, generally hop dominated, with some caramel & fruit but far more forward with pine notes.

The flavor is nicely hoppy, somewhat spicy, with a light sweetness at the front and a bit of soapiness. The beer finishes nicely dry and has some fruitiness form the hops that is very pleasant.

Perfectly enjoyable beer, but it didn’t quite take be by surprise like the x-114 did.

12oz bottle, $1.55 from The Party Source. Bottled August 17, 2011. Clear amber-red color, minimal off-white head. Plentiful rows of lace. Moderate but crisp carbonation, good dry texture. There’s a bitter taste, but it’s a bit lighter. Hops aroma is sort of herby, earthy, and spicy. Nice malt balance. Interesting and complex IPA. I prefer it to the X-114 Rotator IPA I had at a bar last week (but did not review).

12oz bottle from Sam’s, Durham. Usually my recs from these fellas are rock solid, but I have to say this is a pretty major strikeout. Solid looking deep gold pour, with a mild orange glow and frothed cream on top. Nose is bitter tea leaves and faded hops, backed by bread. Is this old or just not my cup of hops? Certainly nothing about the brew suggests it’s totally past its prime, as there is a potency to many of the non-hop flavors. But while I can appreciate a more dry, balanced English-style IPA quite a bit, there really is a hop deficiency here to the point that staleness is suggested.

beerfest5 (1060) - Dublin, IRELAND - NOV 19, 2011
not the best ipa ive ever had, bought it due to the relatively rare hop variety, but theres a reason its rare. flowery but without the citrus backer that makes most flowery ipa’s a little tastier, this leaves the tastebuds puckered. not the best

Bottle and served in no-nik pint glass: Clean nearly amber hue with a small but lasting off-white fluffly head and good lace. The aroma has notes of mango and pineapple, some resiny and leafy vapours, caramel and biscuity malts along with a touch of green tea and sweet onion.

The taste is rather mundane blend of leafy and spicy hops notes over a bed of biscuity and crystal malt along with a dash of alcohol and a long astringent tea bag finish. Honestly the malt seems to overshadow the hops character. The mouth feel is crisp and effervescent with some dry tannins about the finish. As I discovered with these hops in other brews, they are not something you would want to use solo and need to be blended to gain more distinct hop character. Again, not offensive but not much memorable either.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of ratman of the 197 variety. Thanks RM! Clear, burnt orange appearance with an ivory head. Pretty citrusy, grapefruity, mild earthy hoppy aroma. Fairly grapefruit, orange citrusy, lightly earthy hoppy, good malty flavor. Not bad.
