COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
People sometimes describe the aromas and flavors of hoppy IPAs as “grapefruit.” Hell, why not use some then? Widmer’s brewing team used a simple IPA recipe and added a generous amount of dried grapefruit peel to the end of the boil. The aroma is a melody of citrus, with a slight spice undertone, accentuated by the use of Citra hops. The flavor is that of nice hop forward IPA with the bitterness of grapefruit.

12-oz. bottle into a pint glass at my house on Sept. 20, 2012 (purchased at Vons in Mission Gorge (San Diego, Calif.) for a 6-pack price of $8.99 (I think) (with card) on Sept. 19, 2012)). About a finger of head. Honey golden with white head. Average-to-below retention all-around. Smelled a gigantic whiff of grapefruit citrus hops. Also some lemon and floral notes. A bit bitter, but it all comes together nice. Tasted close to the nose, but didn’t have the same impact as the nose. Got that grapefruit taste in the front, which gave way to a huge bitter aftertaste. Could almost taste the grapefruit seeds. Got a slight taste of floral hops as well. Light body. Thin texture. Average-to-above average carbonation. Long, bitter finish. A pretty good beer overall. I enjoyed it, but I don’t know how I’ll enjoy the other five.

This ne was a shock to me. Best thing I’ve had from Widmer. The grapefruit is a perfect match for the hop character. Resinous huge aroma. Great fresh hop flavor.

12oz bottle from Wegman’s, King of Prussia, PA. An attractive pale amber pour with a loose white head; aroma of grapefruit, and straw drying on a summer’s day, with some pine trees nearby where the resin is so strong it brings tear’s to your eyes; the taste is quite soft and flabby at first, but the grapefruit really picks things up, leading towards a dry and bitter finish.

We have been impressed with Widmer’s Rotator series of IPAs. This on is one of the favorites. Nice grapefruit tones thru out. Sorry to see this ’rotate’ out of the series but it will be back!

Nice, big grapefruit hop character. Very drinkable IPA, grapefruit character enhances hop bitterness. Will be back.

Big citrus hops, dank grapefruit. Some cracker malts. One of the biggest citrus aromas I have smelled outside the notorious IPA’s (Sculpin, Heady Topper, etc.). Taste follows the nose, dominated by tart citrus. The finish is bitter, but refreshing. Very little malt flavor and a great hop presence. Good carbonation with a light-medium body that drys, but refreshes the palate on each sip. I was very impressed by this beer. Fantastic citrus and hops make for a perfect summertime session beer.

~Citrus grapefruit aroma and biscuity, bready malts. ~Pours hazy amber gold with lasting creamy white head. ~Lot of grapefruit flavor, bitter grapefruit with bready maltiness. ~med full bodied, med CO2, light abrubt bitter finish. ~I like the grapefruit in this and the quick finish. Makes me want more after each sip.

Draught at Beer Authority, NYC. Golden beer with a nice white head, leaving nice lading in the glass. Pineapple aroma, peach, grapes, mango, pine needles, hay, fruit cocktail, citrus, dry grassy, pine, juniper berries. Hoppy peach flavor, pineapple, woody, citrus, grapefruit notes. Very refreshing and rather on the fruity side. Full bodied and with a pleasant hop, grass and peach finish. Fresh American IPA:s should be brewed in Sweden instead!!!
