Brewed with 6 different hop varieties and 3 different grains, including wheat, Upheaval will be a fitting tribute, not only to the bold Northwest-style IPA, but to Kurt and Rob Widmer’s unapologetic attitude in legacy of innovation.

Draft at Kloby’s. Pours hazy amber with a fizzy beige head. Tastes like musky grapefruit , hops, dry pine, light caramel. Light/medium body and low carbonation. Smells like musk, resin, and light sweet pine and hops.

Pours to just under a finger length head. Nice rings of lacing. Aroma of predominantly pine; also some grass and a little citrus. Citrus comes out the longer this sits in a glass; starts smelling more like oranges and grapefruit after a couple of minutes. Cloudy orange appearance due to the wheat. Flavor is pine bitterness, citrus, and a good malt backbone. Malt hits nicely in the finish especially. Also a resinous quality. Lingers for quite a bit. Nicely balanced IPA. Almost sessionable; kind of mid-strong. Not the biggest fan of Widmer, but wanted to try something different, and this is one of the better beers I’ve had of theirs.

a nice blend of the grains and hops. Nice pine hop taste and aroma, good body. Faint rye/grain in the end.

Pretty good IPA. Good aroma with a great hoppy flavor. I like that widmer is giving out more variety.

Pours a somewhat hazy (floaties) dark straw color with minimal head. Aroma is mild with some citrus but I have a cold so deciphering the aroma is difficult. Taste is a nice citrus bitterness with a little caramel malt mixed in. Light to medium bodied with a dry finish. This would be perfect on a warm summer day.

Growler @ Cumming Growler Shop. Pours clear, light amber color. Tall foam, nice lacing. Simple hops aroma, decent citrus notes. Flavor of pale malts, toasted notes, nice caramel malt character. Finishes with a sharp bitterness that lingers on the tongue, as well as a welcoming fruity tinge in the end. Very sessionable, easy to enjoy. I’m glad I picked this one. (4077)

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a shaker pint. Initial aroma of big grapefruit and some lemon. Pours with a standard white head. The beer is hazy, not unexpected. More grapefruit on the tasting. A hint of toast on the backside. Mouthfeel is pretty standard for an American IPA. Overall it’s a tasty IPA but I was expecting more. The aroma and flavor is pretty one dimensional.

Bottle: Pours hazy orange-gold with a small, off-white head. Sweet orange nectar aroma. Taste is strong orange-peel and pine. Tropical fruits...malt. Crisp citrus notes. A really tasty IPA.

Rich deep copper and orange coloured body with a thin, one centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of rich, dank hops with a lot of grapefruit, pine, resin and grapefruit notes - a good balance of malt, but the aroma really is with the dry-hopping of the PNW hops. Medium-bodied; Rich, deep hoppy flavour of pine and resin showing a good malt backbone, some subdued grassy and herbal notes and a light sweetness with hints of apricots. Aftertaste is super bitter from the hops with the grapefruit and pine the strongest and a good alcohol bite at the end. Overall, a very good PNW IPA that I honestly wasn’t expecting from the brewery, but I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth trying if you can find this (which you should be able to) and enjoy the style - a very good beer. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 30-March-2014 for US$2.29 sampled at home in Washington on 29-May-2014.
