Bottles as Series 924 Pitch Black IPA.
Black-brown with tight foam head with darker, bubble concentrated head circle around perimeter.
Even, thin lacing.
Smooth front with a bitter finish.
Semi-sweet with min carbonation.
Pared well with Nicks New Haven Style White Clam Pizza (Boca)
Surprising ale that exceeded my expectations.
A lighter dark beer :)

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BucannonXC5 (317) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 9, 2012
Poured from a draft into a goblet at South Park Abbey in San Diego, Calif. About two fingers of head. Color was espresso. White lacing that lasted for the entirety of the pour. Lots of film across the glass.
Smelled smoky spices up front, followed by sharp and wet hops. Roasty coffee notes as well.
Tasted just a bit hoppier than the smell. I want to say tangerine hops first. Also some pine, roasted nuts and a small hint of coffee notes.
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Smooth finish.
Really enjoyed this beer. Would love to pick up some more.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 bnoel09 (270) - Elk Grove, California, USA - MAY 7, 2012
Series 924 version bomber poured into a shaker. Color is deep, dark brown with a quickly fading tan head. Aroma is mild but has some sweet and roasted malts with some grassy and citrusy hops. Flavor is slightly sweet and chocolatey at the start and transitions into grassy hops. Medium bodied with prickly carbonation. As others have said, this is sessionable and would make a good starter Black IPA, but there are far better examples available.
2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 tommyfrerking (4) - - MAY 6, 2012 does not count
A decent black IPA, very drinkable and non-offensive. Not much for sustainable flavor though: palate is fairly empty, aroma is very slight, aftertaste is minimal. A decent beer for light beer drinkers who are looking to dip their toes in the deeper waters of good brews.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 kwoeltje (1837) - Manchester, Missouri, USA - MAY 6, 2012
(bottle - 927 series label) deep black with tan head. Roast malt and pine aroma. Flavor is roast malt, coffee, pine hops.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 bubbleflubber (1228) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - MAY 5, 2012
Bottled under the 927 Series monastery. Not opaque, but almost so; black with the deepest of mahogany fringes. Chocolate and silage grains on the nose. Chocolate, cherry and roasted grains on the tongue. Some roasted bitters in the finish. Silky mouthfeel and medium bodied with soft carbonation. Don’t know that I’d classify it an IPA initially, but it goes down well, and is a good brew.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Nikiel (702) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 29, 2012
Bottle with Carla. Pours dark brown with large bubbles and cream-colored foam. Smells hopped with hints of pine and grass. Tastes mildly sweet (more like an esb than a black ipa) but ends with some bitterness and hints of pine and coffee.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 patrick767 (2836) - fort wayne, Indiana, USA - APR 26, 2012
bottle called Series 924 Pitch Black IPA - Pours near black with a small light tan head. It has a mild roast malt aroma with some hops in the background. The flavor is of roast malt and citrus hops and has lingering bitterness. It tastes a bit off though. It’s too bland and the body is too thin. Is there a little infection here? It’s not overwhelming and the beer isn’t bad, but something seems not right.
