3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
damn good black IPA, the more balanced version Ive had for sure, usually the roasted malts take a back seat to the hops to throw in your face that this is a black ipa, but the malts and hops work equally here, and neither dominates the other. delicious.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours exactly as described-pitch black with a cream-colored head. Aroma of pine, hops, and roasted malt. Not as bitter or big as many black IPA’s. Most roasted malt and caramel sweetness with just a touch of hop bitter bite at the back end. Porter-like consistency. Decent beer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Aroma has both pine and citrus notes mingling with the dry roasted malt aroma. Beer needs more aggressive aromatic hopping. Plenty bitter which is accented nicely by the dark malts but really want more aroma and pungent hoppage. Not bad but not great.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours predictably: dark brown (almost black) with a dense, but thin, head of tan. Aromas are weak... a little bit of earthy roasted malt with a floral hops presence and just a hint of tropical fruit. Flavor is OK, but comes across as slightly soapy... dark malt chocolate with a hint of floral and citrus hops that almost tastes like hand soap at times. It’s OK, but could be much more interesting.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Poured dark clear black color with an average frothy light brown head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted malt and and small hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate toasted bittersweet flavor with a moderate bittersweet finish of medium duration. My expectations where met.

A dark brown pour with orangish-red highlights and a tan head. The aroma is hoppy with pine dominating. The medium body has a slick texture with lively carbonation. The taste is bitter throughout, but with some slight caramel lurking in the background.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours black with a grayish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a pine hop note that is backed by dark grains with a bit of roast and a bit of must. Flavor starts with dark grains and roast. A growing wet pine note joins in to add some bitterness.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A bit more understated than a lot of black ipas, which I think actually works to its benefit - pours dark brown with a decent lace - a nice mix of debittered black malt and citrusy cascade hops are complimented by a touch of roast - medium body, soft carbonation - malt profile is that of a porter, providing a little sweetness and roast for the hops to ride in on - their flavor starts through the middle, but their spice and acidity do not arrive until close to the finish, complimented well by the slight bitterness left in the black malt - not as assertive as I like the style to be, but tasty.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured clear and very dark mahogany brown with nice orange/red highlights around the edge of the glass. A tall foamy tan head, like that of a good root beer made the appearnace very good. The head left some very nice lacing too. The aroma was a light floral hops one. The initial taste was smooth with a light roasted malt sweetness. A mild hop bitterness followed and that hops became a bit stronger on the finish with more of a pine flavor. This was an easy drinking beer as the hops gave more to the flavor than to the bitterness.
