2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle poured into glass. Grabbed this one because I’ve never tried it, should have left it alone. Aroma was slightly hoppy while the flavor was bland with a slight hint of malt. Nothing too special here.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance: Pours a pitch black body with a scant, light beige-colored head depositing some sheer, gauze-like lace on the descent.
Smell: A sprinkling of licorice over energetically roasty malts hit the nostrils firstly, then notes of citrus, well-chilled coffee and a vague hint of muted chocolate and dark fruits.
Taste: Lightly sweetened, thanks-but-no-cream coffee, some subtle semi-sweet chocolate morsels, and, of course, the roasted malts. Very limited hint of dark fruit. A drop of lonely vanilla. Earthy, citrusy hops ricocheting between lemon and grapefruit. A blip of resin. Moderate bitterness. Sweet and fruity on the finish, though there is some encompassing, lingering bitterness present.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Overall: It’s got some punch to it, but it’s also still fairly smooth. These beers are going from unique to hackneyed in a real hurry with every brewery racing to produce one.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Deep dark brown coloured body with a thin, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, a ton of hops, grapefruit, pine and a dash of licorice and anise. Medium-bodied; A touch watery at first with a hop kick followed by a deep maltiness and a lingering oaky, dryness which actually goes nicely with the hops. Aftertaste is light and hoppy with a touch of pineapple and pine notes over top of the strongish malty vibe. Overall, a nice IPA, pretty true to the style with a bit less of an emphasis on hops, kind of like a mass-produced IPA in general, so I guess this is about right, considering all the variables. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 28-April-2011 for US$2.49 sampled at home in Washington on 17-June-2011.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Slight burnt toast & herbs (oregano) aroma. Looks like black coffee in the glass with a soapy looking head. Flavor is a clean mix of burnt toast & bitter citrus notes. Overall, tasty and easy drinking.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized creamy beige head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was floral hops, a bit of vague fruity hops and bitter roasty malts. The flavor was sharp and very bitter with strong floral hops and dry roasty malts and a hint of coffee. The finish was long, dry, bitter and floral. Medium body. Eh.

1.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
UPDATED: JUN 25, 2011 On tap at the house of 1000 beers. Very dark but not quite black. Tan creamy head. Smells sweet and hoppy, perhaps aroma is a tad volatile. Big bitter what else can you say bitter dark choco impy stout impressions on the palate. No co2 and its quite mouth coating dark beery. Comes across more like an impy stout of some sort.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle purchased at the Village Beer Merchant in Buffalo. Pours just as it says, pitch black with a half finger to a finger of white/ tan head and drippy residual sugar lace. Aroma is hoppy, but not overpowering. Also smells like a Belgian brew with a sweetness and some yeast. Taste is bitter but not what I expected, it comes on quick and leaves just as fast. There is only one downfall to this beer and that is on the tail end their is a taste of what I can only describe as pennies. For all other purposes an awesome brew.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark brown with a frothy tan head. Smells of floral hops. Smooth taste with just a hint of bitterness at the finish. One of the better IPAs I have tried. I generally do not like them.
