3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Purchased at Fireside in Strasburg, PA. Overall, this was a very good IPA with a remarkable balance. Pours with a dark brown color, producing a moderate tan head, but with lacing that ends up being a bit weak. The nose is hoppy and malty: sweet, with florally scents accompanied by a roasted malt aroma. Likewise, the taste strikes a nice balance between malts and hops. Will certainly buy this one again

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at McGregor’s. This was a different take on the black IPA a bit lighter and with less roasted notes, with the biscuity maltiness combined with some hop floral and fruity notes. Heavily recommended by the bartender and he gave us samples 1st. Also he did a vertical with a more traditional black, the gritty, roasted/toasted grainy hoppy monster. Also note in the taste this was a bit sweet with a sour finish or edge.

12 oz. bottle, pours dark brown with a reddish tinge and a small tan head. Aroma is very mild - toasted nuts, roasted malt and only a light hoppiness. Flavour is also mild with slightly roasted malt and citrus hops, with a mild lingering bitterness. A little watery, but decent.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma is roasted barley malts, sweet citrusy hops round it out. Touch of grapes and stone fruits.
Appearance is deep purple, nearly brown. Murky, with not a ton of head.
The flavor is roasted malts, but a little sweet, milky porter thrown in; mildly roasted, with some rye spices. Dates and raisins and sweet grapes. Tangerine and grapefruit finish, balances well with the malt’s rounded sweetness.
Palate is ashy, oily exterior. A beautifully balanced IPA. Not just a stout with hops tossed in. A medley of complementary flavors. Very good example of style.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A black beer with a small tan head that leaves decent lacing. The aroma is floral and earthy with a hint of malt. The flavor is also very floral and a bit smoky with a light bitterness. It is hard to reconcile the flavors with the appearance, but it is really quite good. A balanced brew with a decent body, certainly one I would try again.
