3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From a bottle stamped Feb0211-0752-WA. It has a dark brown pour almost to level of a Porter with ruby hues in the light and a small, light brown head. There are wonderful hoppy notes on the nose and a bit of roasted malts after a few whiffs. The body is of medium texture. The flavor is bitter and sharp with its hoppy ending. It stimulates the tongue like a sour candy. But it was a nice beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. The body nearly black, but shows some beautiful garnet when held to light. There is a thin scum of a tan head on top. The nose is like caramel with some grapefruit and toffee hints. The taste is strong caramel and pine. The finish is woody and dry with some anise. Nicely done. This tastes like a fairly hoppy stout to me.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
nice and sweet with a full taste of roasted toasty malty and a high caramel sweetness in the malts. the hops are only medium at best but the flavor itself is a winner all the way.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Another average Black IPA. Pitch black pour, roasty and hops in the nose. Thin mouthfeel. This one is not very hop forward at all. Lightly hopped, not floral at all. Very mediocre black IPA. Would not buy again.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance like that of a schwarzbier; dark, almost black with a light, tan foam. Nose is of piney, Pac-NW hops and a touch of chocolate. Very fresh smell. This particular hop flavor is not my cup of tea for some reason. Resiny, piney but lacking any citrus that could improve the depth of this hop focused beer. There is a slight roast note in the finish but if I were blind, this would just be another middle of the road IPA.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Licorice and pine in equal proportions on the nose. Garnet brown, thin yellow head. Pine needle is dominant, rather dry, but enjoyable. Charcoal notes are present but overcast by the hop. Ash in the finish. Not all that complex. True to the fledgling style and full of flavor. Kudos Widmer!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep brown with a small off white froth. Aroma is very fresh citric and piney hops, a touch of cocoa and toastiness. FlAvor starts with sharp citric fruit character with a soft roastiness and touh of cocoa with some burnt toast notes. Finishes zesty and sharp fruity bitterness. Medium body and a sharper carbonation. Pretty nice fresh black ipa though the"black" is fAirly subdued, not much roast
