A pinch of black malt and a splash of roasted barley break this IPA apart from tradition, Cascadian Dark. Join the shady revolution.

Not quite "pitch black," but dark, near-opaque, a little brownish red at the edges when held to light. Yields about a 1/2 inch cream head that leaves a nice sticky lace on the glass. floral, herbs, earthy, slight alcohol, ginger?? Well balanced hops slight citrus. Medium Carbonation despite being an IPA slight coffee as well.. A little weird but still pretty tasty.

12oz bottle–pours a tight tan head and black color. Aroma is sweet resin, roasty. Taste is sweet resin hops, roasty dark malt. Easy.

Bottle, under the alternate label. It is pitch black alright. The beer presents itself as a porter, both in color and initial aroma. But at the first quaff, the hoppiness is readily apparent. Quite drinkable and refreshing. (#4161, 7/10/11)

Bottle to pint glass. Pouts a (bitch) black, but really it has a little transparency. Dark brown, virtually no head, but laces well. Has some great hop bite flavors, and a roasted malt aftertaste. Pretty darn nice.

Indeed pitch black. Aroma is chocolate and roasty but with distinct hoppiness. Flavor is a nice fusion of hops and roasted malts. Chewy. nice.

NW Hops aroma, slight malt, bar soap, honey. Beer poured fairly flat but what head was there, it was nice and creamy. Color is def pitch black and head is a nice kakhi color. Lots of roasted barley notes, sweetness for a BIPA. Huge floral hop profile. Light mouthfeel. Fairly regular BIPA. Finishes with a dry hop cringe that lingers. Much like a Bells North Coast Ale, but not as well made. Enjoyability: 4/5

Pours a rich, mysterious black with slight amber highlights. Small head of off-white sits atop the beer. Aroma is toasty pine, grapefruit biscuit, and a splash of pancake syrup. Flavor is a roasty pine-flavored pancake syrup mix with a finish of light grapefruit rind. Surprisingly thick on the tongue. Perty good beer.

Tap. This is a drinkable beer but not a complete one. Very citrusy pale lemon and some grapefruit. dominate with hoppy bitterness but the body is a little thin. The malt tastes generic and does not draw me in and the hops are non uniform, they don’t make a well rounded brew. Dispite that it is still alright overall and not too bad of a step for widmer bros.

By a newbie’s standard, this is hoppy. By a hophead’s standard, this is balanced. Nice melding of roast and hops. Nothing clashes. Nothing dominates. Good.

Pours black brown with very thin cream head. Aroma is big, roasty malt, nutty, toffee. Flavors are cocoa, caramel, with some earthy hop bitterness on the finish. Very drinkable.
