Pours as dark as a good stout but the first smell gives it away. Hoppy and bitter my old friend IPA greets my lips with a solid effort from widmer bros on this black IPA. Nice, but not top-tier .

Bottle from Bierland. Very dark brown with a lacing cream head and aromas of pine and grapefruit. Big roasty malt and burnt caramel body leads to a grapefruit and burnt-bitter finish.

Smells toasty and bread. Pours a nice dark brown with ruby accents but almost no head. I really like the taste of this one, not real hoppy with a nice malt character. Fizzy carbonation and has a surprise toasty finish.

22oz bottle 5/12/13 (Jewel Clearance Rack)-52° in Shaker-Pours black with a small loose tan head. Aroma of hops and roasted malt. Taste of the same with some chocolate. This medium bodied brew is nicely balanced and quite tasty.

Pours a very deep brown/black color with a tan head that quickly fades down to the liquid. Aroma has a slight bug spray/deep woods OFF nose. Flavor has a smooth light chocolate early that quickly fades to a modest earthy hops presence with a good dose of roasted malt at the finish. Body is light/modest with a slight dryness from the roasted malt presence. Overall not bad but nothing special. Hops presence wasn’t as pronounced as I would expect for the style.

This is a black IPA and what I would call a stout. Still, this is a very smooth beer and definitely worth a try.

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a small tan head that fades quickly, leaves a little lacing. Aroma is a mix of light roasted coffee, pine, and citrus hops. Taste is fairly sweet with a light bitterness. Coffee, light roast, oranges, pine, milk chocolate, some flowers. Medium body with an odd chalky mouthfeel. Watery in the finish with light coffee. Overall, not very interesting. Had many better black IPA’s.

Needs a bit more body to balance the bitterness and astringency of the hops/roasted grains. However, overall a pretty decent black ipa.

Idiosynkrasie (1823) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - APR 22, 2013
355ml bottle. Clear darkest brown colour with average to huge, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, tan head. Piney, slightly herbal hoppy aroma, also some grapefruit and blood orange. Taste is minimally sweet dark malty, dark chocolate, hints of orange. Excellent hop nose doesn’t find its way into the taste completely. Nevertheless well balanced and drinkable.
