Pours black with tan head that thins. Lovely essence of liquorice in the nose, on the palate carbonated, flavour not as promised, slightly thin and lacks bitterness and depth of flavour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at Moriartys. Very dark clear brown-orange pour with a frothy tan head. Lots of lace. First impression was how creamy the body is for a Black IPA. Thin aroma but great flavors. Burnt toast. Pepper. Dark caramel. Smoked oranges. Body is full but not syrupy. Very interesting. One of the better Widmer Bros creations.

Pailhead (3887) - Brownstown, Michigan, USA - JUN 9, 2013
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy chocolate, fruit, pine, and a touch of mint. It pours a dark brown with a hint of orange highlights. It has a one finger off-white head that leaves some thin webbing on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a good dose of chocolate. The finish has roast, fruit, pine, and a hint of mint. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation.

Cloudy dark brown, foamy creme head. Roast malt and resiny hops on the nose, very nice indeed. Flavour is similar, a good balance between chocolate, coffee and oily bitterness. Oily mouthfeel, medium soft carbonation, finish has a twist of coffee. Must try again. s

Bomber. Pours an opaque black with a moderate, foamy off-white head. Aroma soft caramel and hops. Flavor sweet balanced nicely with bitter. Body medium with soft carbonation. Overall a very nice specimen of the type, but may lack the complexity I?d like to see, and the hops/IPA character takes a back seat where I’d like to see it more up front.
